For those of you using the Mozilla Firefox web browser there is a Firefox extension called eQuake Alert that pulls the latest worldwide earthquake data from the US Geological Survey and displays that information on the browser status bar.
To load the extension, go to the Firefox website and be sure to observe all copyright and privacy agreements relative to the extension software author's terms of usage. By clicking on the data box, you are immediately linked to the USGS Earthquake Center data page describing the earthquake in great detail. By right clicking on the data box, an archive list of accumulated earthquakes pops up allowing you to choose one, again linking directly to the USGS Earthquake Center's database for detailed information on that particular earthquake. Update intervals for eQuake Alert are set by the user. One alert notification method can be by "shaking" your entire screen whenever an earthquake has been detected and reported by eQuake Alert. By the way, the US Geological Survey's Earthquake Hazards Program website which contains real time updates and status of earthquakes throughout the US and throughout the world is located at this link: http://earthquake.usgs.gov/ Its another bookmark to add to your Disaster toolkit.
