falling asleep in the shower

Alright me and my better half have been through a lot and by God's grace he still sticks by me. But the other day I was so tired I thought I would take a shower to wake up. Well you guessed it. I fell asleep in the shower darn near drowned myself. I gaged and spitted out so much water from my lungs I ended up getting sick and was so glad to be near the toilet. I leaked water for 24 hours. He bet me that no one else has ever fallen asleep in the shower. If there is anyone out there who has let me know I don't want to lose this bet.

If not let me know where is the funniest place you fell asleep, we all need a little humor here. I know of all of the scariest ones (We sure don't need to relive those ones).

" I have never fallen asleep in the shower, but that is something I worry about (I live alone). So I have not had the experiences to corroborate your story, but my fears support it!

I don't think I have fallen asleep in all that funny of places, but there are a few.

-During my four year undergrad, I don't think I stayed awake for a single full class. I tried to make it look like I was looking down at my notes, and I would hold my pen in hand on the desk. I don't think I was all too convincing though - I've had to be woken a few times by people sitting nearby because I was moaning or mumbling in my sleep.

-I've fallen asleep in the middle of parties. This includes at bars, house parties, and in the middle bed of a hotel room that had at least 15 drunk people all around me, celebrating Canada day.

-The funniest narcoleptic experience I have had was not so much falling asleep, but starting to dream a bit too early. Luckily this wasn't a frightening hh, but a more pleasant one. In the middle of intimacy, I had some really neat hallucinations about egyptians and pirates (separately, not at the same time). "

" Tirednurse and all -

I imagine that you all already know this, but a near drowning can be really dangerous hours after all of the vomiting and coughing has stopped, and the person is awake and alert. So if and when this kind of thing happens, get thee to the ER to get checked out. I know it's a pain, takes forever, and that the ER is a truly miserable place for a PWN who can't stay awake, but on the other hand it's possible the trip could save you from further complications, or save your life.

Here's a Medline quote from the site below:
"All near-drowning patients should be checked by a doctor. Even though the person may revive quickly at the scene, lung complications are common. Fluid and body chemical (electrolyte) imbalances may develop, and other traumatic injuries may be present."
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus...

And there is an incredibly detailed and terrifying description of the possible effects of near drowning at an emedicine site. It seems to be aimed at medical professionals, but enough is understandable to the layperson to convince one to get themselves to the ER after inhaling/swallowing bathwater, even for a short time.

Take care of yourselves, you guys!

" I have fallen asleep in the shower but usually with the front of my forehead on the back wall so I have not had any near drowing. Everytime I go up on my Xyrem dose I fall asleep on the toilet. I take my 2nd dose and then go to pee, and most nights I fall asleep sitting there. My cat knows I am not suppose to do that so after a bit he starts biting me to wake me up. Also there have been quite a few time, I know I take my 2nd dose get up go to the bathroom, then I don't remember getting off the toilet and back in bed, and I will wake up with a start and have no idea how I got in bed. " Yup, fallen asleep in the shower many a time. Mostly leaning on the wall, sometimes i come to and i'm sitting in the shower - dont remember sitting down mind you. Have fallen asleep in the bath numerous times too. I never lie back in the bath so its usually, again, leaning against the wall. Only once have i come round spitting out mouthfuls of water. Very scary.
Falling asleep on the toilet - so many times i cant possibly count. Legs so numb i couldnt get off the pan! Became a bit of a joke when i was working... Very very very happy i'm not working now.
Buses, yeah i've been there. Waking up miles after your stop having to ask the bus driver where the hell you are and how to get back to where you meant to get off... In taxis - hmmm guarenteed to make them think they've got a drug addict...
Museums - managed only just to make it to the only chair in the vicinity, came round to a gaggle of grannies tutting and giving me very dirty looks, then i noticed the sign above the chair saying it was reserved for the elderly... Fine, i thought, I'd like to see what they'd have thought about stepping over me on the floor... "

" I always fall asleep in the bath or shower. I think it's because I'm so comfy.

Although, if I slip under, it scares me, gives me cataplexy and the hubby has to save me from drowning yay I hardly take a bath if I'm home alone. "

" Thank God you woke up and are O.K. I get migraines and purposely lay on the floor while taking shower and have fallen asleep. Once I fell asleep in the bath/shower and as I started to sink down into the water breathing in the water a little woke me up right away. "
