" I take 60mg of Adderall XR (very similar to dex) and 30-45mg of Dexodrine every day. So I guess that's 90-105mg of stimulants - and the nap-attacks came back weeks ago! Still waiting for my next appt to switch to something else. "

" Okay, you made me curious. I called my pharmasist and asked what the MAXIMUM recommeneded doses were for amphetamines:

Only taking Dextroamphetamine - 60mg a day.
Only taking Adderall XR - 40mg a day.

Yet, I'm taking 45 of dex AND 60 of adderall. This doesn't seem very safe... "

" I take 40mg. of Addarrall XR aday in 2 doses. I take a 25mg in the morning between 6:30 and 7, and then I take a 15mg at noon. Most days does okay, but by 7pm I am useless. I am wanting something to help me thru at least 9pm, but if I take the noon dose @ 2pm, I am sleeping @ work after lunch. "

" Hey Tim - just saw my sleep DR a few days ago and shared my concerns about the HUGE amount of stimulants I'm on. He said there's a few reasons he thought they were my best option.
First - I'm healthy (perfect blood pressure, no smoking, no drinking)
Second - my EDS is the most sever he's ever seen - so bad that I'm a danger to myself (I've fallen asleep walking down stairs and nearly killed myself, and almost lost my thumb when I fell asleep cutting veggies)
Third - my body adapts to drugs ridiculously fast and (thankfully) they don't have any side-effects for me.

They worked for the first 4 or 5 weeks, and then the nap-attacks slowly started coming back. Now, I spend about 30-40% of my day asleep or in automatic behavior. I can take the meds and still fall asleep 5 minutes later.
My options are to take MORE stimulants or try Xyrem - so I'll start taking Xyrem in a few weeks (the only pharmacy that can sell it is 3 hours away) In the meantime, he's added another amphetamine to the mix. My new combo:

7am - 60mg Adderall XR
11am - 30mg Dexedrine (Spansule)
1pm - 15mg Dexedrine (Spansule)
Anytime - 10-20mg Dexedrine

He said when I feel the nap-attacks coming, the dexedrine should act immediately to stop them.

Hope your Dr finds something that works for you :) "
