Provigil and $$$$$$$$$$

I started Provigil last week. The doc gave me a trial pack to see how I would do on it. It is helping a little - better than not taking anything at all. I called to get a Rx but found out my insurance will only cover part of it and there are no generic versions. I feel stuck because I can't afford it. If it was only a few months that would be fine but if I have to take this everyday forever then I couldn't do it.

I have called the insurance company to complain but haven't received a call back. The doctor is willing to write a letter and everything but I have a feeling that the insurance company will just say that they pay for part of it and that is better than paying none of it.

Does anyone have any ideas on what to do? Or is anyone taking a medication similar to Provigil that is working for them?

Thank you!
JJL

" jjl
at one time i couldnt afford a medication so i ask dr to make an applacation for free drugs from the company. all drug companys are suppose to send you medication free if you cant afford it because of hardship on you and your family. all you have to do is ask your dr how to apply and they will help you or you can ask human resorses how to apply. they would send my drugs to dr's and i would pick up the medication. hope this helps... " I used to be on provigil and it is expensive!! My Neurologist had me apply for the assistance program that the actual company that makes Provigil provides. I took several months but I qualified and was able to get it for free. you should ask your dr. about it... "

" i used to get the coupons for 7 pills along with a perscripton from the doctor. i took that to the pharmacy and they gave me 7 pills. My doctor suggested i apply to the company for their hard ship program. It was a lot of paper work but aprox 6 weeks later i got a coupon from the department of rare disorders for 100 pills, to last me 3 months. what i do is take them when i need them and at least 1 day a week take a vacation from them so i wont run out when i need them befor the 3 months is over.
they give me a head ache that i cant describe and i still am tired, but i am awake at least. i hope this helps "

" Hello, I thought about actually contacting the company that makes the provigil. I got my first prescription last week and 45 dollars is so much for me, just for medication. If you take half the pill, and you say have 60 tablets, that is at least 120 days worth.

" JJL I had to fight the insurane. Then, I had to have my doctor fight the insurance company. I cold not believe how much this medication cost. It works, but wow, you would think it was made of gold. I am currenly drawing unemployment and doing contract work. I have been trying to get an insurance company to pick me up. To do that i had to get documentation for 4 years to prove I have always had medication and Insurance. It seems unfair, and like you I do not work well without meds. Have you tried to see if your doctor will fight your insurance? "

" I must say I feel very lucky to have our National Health Service in Britain, I did'nt think I would ever say it but listening to people saying that they can't afford it makes me realise just how lucky we are. I was late renewing my presgription once and it was going to take 2 days to get through to my phamacy as I phoned for it to be renewed, I thoughtI had enough but I didn't so I went along to my local Asda (wal-mart)pharmacy and asked if they could provide me with 2 days worth untill the presgription came through, I was very lucky as they are not supposed to have done it but they let me have them on the condition that I pay for them untill my presgription came through, normal charges were £9 for a presgription but they had to take £50 off me as they were such an expensive drug, the money was returned to me as soon as it came through, that was only for 8 100mg tablets I can't even imagine how much they cost? there is no wonder people can't afford it! " I live in the UK so I get my meds through the National Health Service. I am on a generic version of modafinil (Provigil) called Modiodal made by Celphalon France. It is the same but I know this costs the NHS a lot less than the branded Provigil and I found it better.
I am not sure how it works where you are but would your pharmacist know if imports like this are available and cheaper? "
