Advice:
staying awake to study...help?

I'm in my 2nd year of nursing school and I don't know if its just because i was able to be a slacker most of the summer and sleep when i wanted to/needed to, but i am having a harder than hell time staying awake hwen i'm trying to do my reading and studying. I've been awake for all of 3 hours today so far and i'm ready to curl up and pass out once again and yet i have a TON of reading/studying i have to get done. Last year i had access to some ritalin for the really bad days a friend gave me but this year i don't have that available... I don't do the sleep study for N until December, and feel awkward calling the doc and asking for something to help me stay awake in the meantime...

I know a few of you are also students or have gone through the student routine,... if anyone has some advice to help me stay focused and AWAKE, itd be GREATLY appreciated! I have soo much i need to shove into my head but i just keep passing out...(if i didn't know better, I'd swear my txtbooks were filled with magical sleeping-gas!)

And what are your thoughts with regards to calling the doc and asking for a stimulant of some variety...? if only i took it when i'm trying to study..Though i know this is a very real problem for me, i have this paranoia or fear of being regarded as someone that just wants a study aid...

Thanks so much-
S

" I would just talk to your Dr. about it. i explained everything to my Dr. and he gave me a script for ritalin to use when in class and for studying. Plus, you will have your sleep study soon and they will put you on stimulants anyways. I would at least talk to him about it. He would be the only one to "judge" you anyways, unless you told other people which i wouldn't. Good Luck. "
