Hi everyone! I am thrilled to have found this support group. I am sure you have all been in my shoes full of frustration unable to see the end of the tunnel. I have been sir reding from severe chronic pain for over a year. Before that, there was constant pain, but no where near as debilitating and this journey has been. I have seen many doctors, had many studies done and have found no reliable source of relief. I am a mother of 3, a full time teacher to 300 middle schoolers and was until this summer a graduaten tudent.
I feel my life has come to a hault! I love to hike, play golf, keep my kiddos busy, cook and just enjoy life with my family and friends. My quality of life is currently at an all time low. I feel like a prisoner. Like I'm on the side lines watching and begging to play but am sentenced to simply watch while everyone else gets to enjoy their life. I am fatigued, in pain and desperation to find any relief. I hope that some of you veterans can give me a hand. I have tried many many therapies but I believe they have been done in the wrong order and have cause me more damage. I finally threw in the towel an sought opiate therapy. To say the least, that in it of it self is a stressor. Any advise, support, ideas or even a simple hello are welcome. I hope I can be of any support to you as well. I have spent my summer in bed reading up on the subject, so I hope I can bring some value to the group! Posted on 07/16/12, 02:56 am |

Hi Gray, I'm so sorry your going thru this, but glad you found us. This forum has given me hope and relief just knowing others with this frustrating condition.
Have you read any books on myofascial pain? A good one is "The Trigger Point Therapy Manual" by Clair Davies, you can find that on Amazon. It will help you find your TrPs (trigger points) and show you how to manage them yourself. A tennis ball in a sock works well and you can really start taking control of your pain right away. There are many helpful videos on YouTube as well. Just type in myofasial release of whatever area you are wanting to treat. What areas are involved? Welcome to the group!

Hi Iggy! Thanks for your promot response! My main areas of concern are my upper back and neck.....which includes my throat area and chest. The referral pain is killer from there. Migraines galore!
I have read a lot on the Internet, but have yet to purchase any books, there is so much info and it seems pretty repetitive. Thanks for the suggestion though! It definitely takes the guess work out! Tennis ball is my go to home therapy. When i have that nagging pain that just won't let me think, I could lay on it forever! I have so many triggers that it really could take all day. I usually pick some of my worst and go from there. I have also tried the foam roller. Works well, when I don't have a specific focus, but it's hardly the case. It seems like when I rush to out out one fire, there's already another waiting. I've actually been very surprised that I have found trigger points in places I didn't even realize they were or could be. I'll check out the book! Thanks again Iggy!

Hi Gray and welcome to the group.
My worst areas of pain are in the area you describe and I can totally relate. I echo Iggy's suggestion about the book. It provides good illustrations of where the trigger points are hiding. I haven't found that type of information on the web. When I first started on this journey, I requested every book I could from the library to see which one fit me best. Best of luck and keep posting - Tink

Let me echo everyone's welcome to all you recent newbies :) it's just such a shame it's pain and suffering that brings us together.
Gray - a quick and easy way of finding trigger points and where they radiate to can be found using this online 'symptom checker' http://www.triggerpointproducts.com/ Keep posting, if you need to vent pain and anger, or try and work out treatment solutions or what your perpetuating factors might be. I'm going to go back a page or two and bump up some really good 'summary' posts, for everyone's information. We keep going back to them, because they have really good information in! You may well feel a little like information overload, but information is your greatest weapon against this condition. One thing I keep losing site of is that mps is one of the best chronic pain conditions to have, because it is so much more treatable than other conditions. The key is finding what caused the problem, what's stopping it from getting better (perpetuating factors), how to get better and how to get back to enjoying your life. You end up being like a detective who finds the culprit and locks him away for life.
