Hi All,
I've had polycythemia vers for 7 years. In Feb., I had too much blood & had a phlebotomy. In April all counts were down. My hem did a BMB which confirmed MDS. I was in shock that it could progress that quickly. I have RAEB of 13%, my IPSS is 3. I am 63 yoa and besides the PV in very good health. I was sent to Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. They say I'm a candidate got a bone marrow transplant. I have 1 sister(25%)chance of a match. Then there is the bone marrow registery. I started 5 days of Dacogen, aranesp injection and 2 units of blood. Now I have a 3 week vacation until I start again for another cycle. I will do this for 4 cycles. I feel better since the transfusions. Does anyone know about the Siteman Center, do they good success rate? I'm trying to take one ay at a time and ask for strenght only for today.

" Welcome to Fultongal and Pambar. I haven't posted in quite some time, but I've "lurked" a bit.

This is a great group, & I'm sure you'll learn from the others. As for me, I'm in the early stages of MDS. After doing very well for several months, my last counts went down & my tiredness is increasing. My hema/oncol keeps saying that when my hemoglobin falls below 10, I should start shots (Procrit, I think). It hit 10.0 early this month, but maybe it will go up a bit next time.

I don't know whether it will be good or bad news, but my Dr is moving back east & I will have another for my next visit. I guess it never hurts to have sort of a second opinion, because waddaino?

I hope all my friends here are doing well. Catch me up if you would? "
