Hi everyone, I am new today to Daily Strength and I am enjoying reading all your post!!!
I am SO glad that I FINALLY after all these years have found a site to connect to other fellow MG survivors!!!! I was diagnosed with MG in 2001 and have been on numerous treatments. My BIG question now is with all this flu going around how are you all protecting yourselves??? My son is H1N1 positive and I called my neuro today to see if I could take Tamilflu to help me out!!! Pretty much all our schools are closed down due to this flu and it's only October!!!! ANY info you have on what works best for you PLEASE do share as I am a HIGH anxiety MG patient!!! Thanks, Kim :) Posted on 10/24/09, 12:10 pm |

Glad you asked this question. I'm worried because of all the people getting the live vaccine and we're still waiting for the "dead" shot for our daughter. But what do you do? We let her live her life- go to school and out with her friends- when I feel like just keeping her at home. If she develops any symptoms the docs will put her on Tamiflu right away. Are you on it now? Any side effects? That's our only "plan" at the moment. Sarah

I am about to get the new vaccine that the government here has released. We are just coming out of winter (which is the worst time for this flu) but they are predicting that it will make a comeback this summer. So off to the docs for the free vaccine. There is suppose to be a better vaccine released here in March which will be included in the regular flu vaccine that I get. I only know of one person who has had the swine flu here so it is not "everywhere" like the media made out. So flu vaccine and fingers crossed!

My community if FULL of the flu and MANY positive people, we have had many schools close due to this outbreak!!! My son tested positive and is sicker than a dog, I called my neuro about an hour ago and she said I am to get on the Tamiflu right away. So I will be starting it today!!! I pray this works for the better, not worse cause just having MG is bad enough!!!!
My neuro and primary doctor is putting all us high risk patients on Tamiflu to help!! I guess you could call your neuro and get his/her advise on what to do? I am here in Minnesota, I'm not sure what the flu is like in your area!! **Crossed Fingers & Prayers**

So far so good!!! I haven't had any side effects from the Tamiflu, and I am SOOO glad that my neuro put me on it!!!!
I would say that if the flu is bad in your community Please do take Tamiflu if your neuro will let you, it's better than nothing at all. Have any of you had the flu vaccine yet? I usually get mine every year but being as though I have ended up with a sinus infection, on meds and sick kids I have not gotten mine yet!! Thanks, Kim

Kim- we live in the San Francisco Bay Area and the counties here haven't released their supplies of the H1N1 shot. I have no idea why. On the news, there were shot clinics open to the public in LA last weekend. One pharmacist I called said that she was going to contact the county so I will follow up today. The disease does not seem to be widespread here but cases are "out there". Thanks. Sarah

Well I pray that you all stay healthy.....no one needs this, exspecially us with autoimmune disease's!!
The only thing I have NOT asked my neuro is if I can or should get the vaccine for H1N1. I am one who bears on the side of caution and Iike to research before I take ANYTHING new!! So, if you know whether or not that it is been proven safe for us PLEASE do let me know!!! Thanks, KIm :)

My daughter is currently hospitalized and receiving plasma exchanges. Her husband was down here with her on Friday and Saturday. When he got home on Saturday he was running a temperature. He saw a doctor who tested him for H1N1. He is positive and on Tamiflu. We told Mare-ma's neurologist that sees her when she is in the hospital. He said, "The best thing is that she is in the hospital and he is there." The plan is that she will get to go home on Thursday. I guess she will go to our house until he is over it. She also has a 2 year old girl and a 6 year old boy that were with their dad on Saturday and Sunday. They are now at my house with my husband while I am with her at the hospital. It is crazy!!!!
