Swallowing

I know this issue has been discussed but I had a situation over the weekend where I over did it on Wed and Thurs last week so I woke up on Friday morning and my whole body is shaking as the day went on I started to have shortness of breath and double vision so I emailed my doctor and she said yes I had over did it and I needed to keep taking my pred 20 mg and increase mestinon from 60 mg every 3 hrs to every 2 hrs and rest. So I did on Saturday but I am a nail tech and run my own business so I did have to go to the salon for three hours on Sat morning but when I got home I rested the rest of the day but by night I was constantly having to take a deep breath and I was feeling like my pills and food where getting stuck at the bottom of my throat right above my chest but it went away. Today I woke up the shaking is getting better but it's still very noticeable if I hold something or I stand for more than 5 mins. My shortness of breath is better but it's still there if I do anything physical such as just taking a bath but the swallowing is worse so I did what some of you talk about I put my mestinon under my tongue and it seems to be helping but it was very bothersome for about three hours. Why are these symptoms happening when the meds were working so perfectly until I over did it?

" As frustrating as it is, it does take time to learn what our limitations are. You may find you can "overdo" for 3 hours and still be fine the next day yet the 4th hour will knock you off your feet.
Petrilyn the chemicals used at the salon may also have an effect on your symptoms. A high chemical environment is something I need to avoid now but that may not be everyones experience.

Please pay attention to your breathing and don't hesitate to go to TGH if it worsens. I'm glad to hear you feel better today.

I hope today is a better day for you.
Take care and take it slow.

" When I very first started to show symptoms way back, was right after I exposed myself to chemicals when refinishing a basement floor. Stripping the carpet glue, sealing and painting and then protective coat. All by myself and it is about 1500 square feet. I did alot without gloves and most without a mask

. I can't believe I could have not thought about the danger of that. It was strong fumes and day after day, all day until I finished. I am so glad I did it by myself, but the fumes must have come upstairs and I made the kids come upstairs to sleep for a while, but still.

Those chemicals are so strong and dangerous. I really believe that may have triggered something I had a predisposition to. Please be careful. "

" Thank you for telling me that because I had no idea about chemicals this is such a crazy thing to have. I'm very happy I have you guys to talk to because this is all so new to me. And Larissa I won't hesitate but I worry to go for no reason so I just wait to see how it works. Also I never understood the meaning moon face I do now I woke up this morning to find my face is all swollen and puffy from the steroids gotta love these drugs...... Joni "

" Well, we get to have a Mestinon face lift and the steroids smooth out all the wrinkles (by making the face puffy), so we all begin to look alike no matter what age we are! Taking the good with the bad, but I will be glad to get the nonsteroid face back with just the face lift. ;-)

I am sensitive to most chemicals, especially cigarette smoke and other air pollution. I seem to do fine with natural fragrances in their natural surroundings, but artificial fragrances and concentrated natural ones can bother me, too (coughing and short of breath) I am sure people think I am being rude sometimes when I walk way around them. b. " That's funny bweeds... There would be a long line with all us women and ou moon faces...my husband told me he will just call me his moon pie hahahaha. Well it's not really funny but if you don't laugh and roll with the punches I will just lay down and cry and boy I have my melt down moments when I get frustrated. I guess I will pay closer attention to the chemical thing and see what maybe causing it. "

" Hi
Yea it is hard to balance our lives and it goes on and on and then changes.
My moon face was much better when I didn't eat salt.
You really need to be careful it sounds like you are on the edge. I spent 6 weeks in the hospital and 4 in intensive care.....this is not something to take lightly. Doulble vision and swallowing problems along with breathing are as serious as you can get without needing hospital.
After I got better...
One day I had the flu and was in bed for 24 hours in the dark. I was shocked how much it helped. I didn't need mestinon for a week. rest is our friend and I had a big dentist apt this morning and so I really need to hancuff myself to the couch. I just wish I could think of one thing I could possible enjoy resting.
All I want to do is go go go go

" Thanks Ann that's the hardest part because when the pills are working on a good day I want to do everything and now I have to figure out where limits need to be set. I was terrified Friday night that if I fell asleep I might not wake up it's all new to me so the not knowing is hats hard. "

" Joni,
I am so glad Larissa mentioned the chemicals because it might be causing you breathing problems. I, too, am very sensitive to smells, cigarette smoke, hay, fresh grass, cologne or perfume, hairsprays and body washes, shampoo, etc.
Try to notice the different odors that you come into contact with and if they bother you.
Please keep a close watch on your symptoms and be prepared "if" you need to seek medical attention. Hopefully, plenty of rest will help.
I don't know if you have read about spending your "nickels". If not, maybe someone here will know how to tell you how to find it. Good advice.
Take care.

" For swallowing difficulties a speach therapist taught me to tuck my chin into my chest before I swallow. Also eat foods link applesauce. Ice cream also worked good for me. Be careful with chunky foods. If drinking water or liquids give you difficulty Walgreens sells products that can thicken your liquids. I found them fine until I tried it in coffee.YUCK!! If you keep being in danger of chocking call your doc and ask for a refurral to a speach therapist. "
