My imaginary illness???

So I was in the car this morning and heard a lady talking about her horriable exsperiance with doctors and symptoms they couldn't explain. They led her to believe it was all in her head. Turns out after many years, she finally recieved diagnosis of MG.

She was telling my story and many of yours I'm sure. The reason I am posting this , is to let you all know she has written a book called, My Imaginary Illness. Her name is Chloe Atkins. I am on my way out now to find it. In hopes it will help keep my chin up and help my family to better understand this illness. I'M NOT CRAZY, AND EITHER ARE ANY OF YOU!!!

If anyone has read this book already let me know what you think. Other wise I would encourage you all to do the same and try and get your hands on it.

Yes I also went through this, 5 yrs of it. Good for her to write a book about it. Let us know what you think of it after you read it.

Hi Casey!

A friend of mine heard Choe's story on the radio and suggested I read it as it sounds like me. I bought the book & couldn't put it down!

It made me sad & angry. But, it also made me feel like I'm not alone. (I am seronegative mg.)

I would recommend this book to anyone - especially other sero - or if you've been told this is "all in your head".

Rebbeca1176 , I know what you mean about not being able to put it down! I to felt sad, mad, and oddly at ease, knowing this is not in my head and I'm not alone. I so badly want to send a copy to the doctors who have treated me in the same ways the author was treated. It is very scary to think you could be on your death bed and treated as an inconvience.. Very sad.. Anyways thank you for the response, good luck and stay well!

Casey, Yes, I went through this too, for about 12 years. I had a semi-retired doctor who was about 67 when my symptoms first began to bother me, and he just kept telling me I was being lazy, or that I was crazy, or both! Sometimes he would add that "we have to expect we will slow down as we get older" for extra measure! My sister was convinced it was all in my head and I ought to just snap out of myself and GET UP and get on! When my left eyelid began to droop (ptosis), off the the neuro I was sent and bloodtests were done. Well, my antibodies were off the chart, so that was the answer. It is horrible what I went through for those 12 years of not knowing, andd getting weaker and weaker.... My heart goes out to you.
