i have just been diagnosed with MG and I am taking l mestidon pill every four hours for the time being. Am trying to find the right level of meds that works best for me. My question is what to do at night other than just set the alarm for every 4 hours. Any advice?

Hi. I had some trouble balancing my meds as well. Currently, I take two 60 mg. fast acting pills when I get up, just to get things going. At about 12:30, I take one time-span. At 6:00 PM, I take two more fast acting, seem to work well when watching TV and reading and I take one more time-span before retiring for the night. Seems to do well for me. Good luck.

Typically, you don't need to take mestinon when you are sleeping. Your doctor should have told you that. Your muscles are resting, so there is no need to try to get them working.
There are 2 reasons why you might need something during the night: 1. If you have trouble breathing 2. If you are too weak when you wake up to swallow your pills IF, you need something at night, you should take the time-span version of mestinon before bed. It is a single 180 mg pill that releases slowly through the night. I took this for a while, but eventually got to the point where I don't need it. Now, I only take mestinon while I am awake (and a bunch of other drugs). If you think you need Mestinon Time-Span, ask your doctor to give you a prescription.

I wish the Timespan would have been around when I started...I used to have to set the clock...it was NOT counterproductive to me when my breathing was short; so be careful if you decide to NOT wake up. But when I finally got some balance and stayed steady on the meds for a while I figured out how to wake up one time a night by setting the clock for one to two hours before time to get up...that worked. Now, I have improved enough not to take any at night. Hope you find that balance...it is SO difficult. Wishing you the best. cindy
