I was at the deli the other day and was talking to my old neighbor, she said to me that the lady next door is real bad now can hardly walk from the ms. she said is that goinng to happen to you? i was dumbfounded, then when i thought she couldnt say anything worse i told her only about 20 percent of ms patients will be in a wheelchair, she said are you going to be in that 20 percent! what is wrong with people? i am already anxious and depressed that day i was kind of ok until i went in there.

I'm always quick to say that MS is much like accelerated aging of the nerves and we are both gonna get there eventually, from age. We are gonna have to watch how she handles thing because we both might need the tips she is learning to live like this. And it is sad that it happens so much sooner with MS.

I wouldn't pay attention to that negativity. You said the right thing and let her know that it's not that common to have to use a wheelchair. No matter what people say just keep a positive attitude. Just because one person is in a wheelchair doesn't mean that will happen to you.

It's amazing how people with no clue are so full of medical information, huh?!?!?! Please don't let her or her 'insight' bother you. If the doctors can't tell us the course the MS will take, it's obvious she has no clue. Perhaps she had good intentions and didn't mean to hurt you, but....jeepers.
Just please know that whatever course the MS takes with you, that is YOUR 'hormal.' No one with MS can compare themselves to anyone else that has it, cause it effects each of us so entirely different. My faith in God is what sustains me. Without Him, I'd never be able to handle ANY of this!!!!! I know He loves me, He's always with me, and I can get through anything this life has to give me. We're only on this earth for such a short time.....but eternity is FOREVER!!!!!!! :-) Hold your head high and don't let anyone bring you down!!!

Some people are dumb....
Don't let her get to you. I think some people are just uncomfortable knowing someone who is ill but curious at the same time. She probably didn't mean to upset you or be mean. She was probably concerned or just wanting to know more but her own discomfort led her to ask in a poor manner.

Hi, Donnainct. I agree with the others that no one knows the course of the ms. Especially an uninformed person who just makes a statement in the middle of a deli. Yes, she must've been uncomfortable with knowing you have ms and chose her words wrong.
Mr.Coffee: May I use that little quip about 'being allergic to stupid'? That is hilarious. I love it!

No one knows the course of the MS. Each person is different, and the analogy comes from the lesion damage, and how many lesions we accummulate. She didn't mean any harm, she just seemed concerned for her friend. I love what "Mr Coffee" said...MS has made me allergic to stupid and I'm getting itchy... gotta go. Now that was really CUTE!
