MS attack and suddent death?

Has anyone heard of someone suddenly dying because of the flare up of a lesion located on a vital area of their spine or brain? My husband insists that I was miraculously spared and insists that because of their location, they should have killed me. I think he is being a bit melodramatic, but I could be wrong! The doctors seemed very grave when they gave me my diagnosis but who wouldn't who was telling someone they have MS? My husband tends to exagerate and says they were insinuating that I had dodged the bullet. As many of you know, I currently have no physical disability from my MS. So, I was wondering if any of you have heard of someone suddenly dying from an MS attack. Of course, a heart attack may not be linked to its actual cause if it happened due to an MS flare. Just wondering.....

" From what I have read, people with MS can live as long as the general population. Now, some days I feels so bad that I want to die or feel like I am dying, but that is rare. Most days it is just aches and pains. I have also started having more MS Hugs, but I am under a "bit" of stress packing to move and looking for a new home. That makes normal peopled stressed! I need "Mary Poppins" to come over and pack for me! LOL Wow, she could really put a lot of stuff in that carpet bag of hers and got things moving by just snapping her fingers!!! LOL Now, if I could just snap my fingers and get my husband and daughter to do stuff.......now I am losing touch with reality, for sure!! LOL Oh, that is my favorite movie of all times! Blessings to all! "

" MSKC - I thought you were going to say you wanted to snap your fingers and have your husband and daughter stuffed in a bag! LOL

Sorry Carolline, in answer to your question, I haven't heard anything like that and think he's probably just a little scared. Perhaps if he needs reassurance, ask the neuro when you next see him if that's what he had implied, and make sure you're husband is listening when the neuro says no! I can understand the fear - my hubby goes through stages of thinking I'm completely incapacitated and need to be guided down the stairs or along the street on some days, yet is happy for me to play volleyball all weekend and throw myself on the floor for fun! I think it's part of their coping mechanism.

As KansasKerry suggests, you don't need the stress, so try to put his mind at rest then ignore it!

Be well

" Are you stressed at the thought? From what I heard it can happen but it is rare...most everything can cause sudden death but it is rare. A common cold can turn into pneumonia for some and it too can kill on occasions.

BobbyJ had a large lesion on his brainstem and he posted once that when diagnosed the doc's said if he did not go on steroids is body functions would begin shutting down. He is diabetic steroids were not something he wanted to do with the affect on blood sugar. The docs tolds him not treating the large lesion on his brain stem could result in death for him.Hes using Avonnex now. I had 2 small brainstem lesions that have since healed. Actually brainstem lesions are one of those diagnosing criteria for MS. Not many disease can cause brainstem lesions, but MS can. A few others too. Brainstem lesions are common in MS & when one is found...MS pops up to the top of the list of possible disease.

Some one else posted that they had asked their doc who said it is rare, but if a lesion forms on the respitratory control in the brain...it can happen. I'm uncertain were the respiratory center of the brain is, probably brain stem. Large brainstem lesions don't sound good. Small brainstem lesions are common.

Tell your husband to be careful about washing his hands, because colds kill too & you wouldn't want anything to happen to him. "

" My husband just tends to lean toward the dramatic. And no, it doesn't stress me out the thought of sudden death. It's the long lingering death that scares me!

MSKC- I can sooo relate to the moving stress and no help! I have had to do a diy move of a household of five three times in the last year and a half and the hubby (especially) and the three teens were not very cooperative. If stress really brings on relapses then I either do not have MS or am one touch cookie cuz I didn't have one during that time! "
