" I've been on Avonex a little over a year. It took me about 6 months to get over the side effects. Now, I'm just a bit tired the day after, but I have enough energy to go to football games and scream my head off at the opposing team. :-) I just had an MRI and I only have one new lesion since my last MRI which was 2 years ago - the new lesion probably came during the year after my diagnosis and before I actually got on meds. I feel much better and symptoms come, but they are much less than what I had before I was on meds.

Also, a quick tip for those of you who take IM injections and get a bit nervous about the needle: I use lanicane (spell?) strips on my leg 40 minutes before I do the injection. It numbs the area and I hardly feel the needle going into my leg. It more or less feels like a small pinch. I struggled for months not being able to do the injection myself, which sucked because I had nobody else to do it but friends. Finally I used these and my fears slowly went away.

Good luck! "
