MS AND FIBROMYLGIA

Hi all it's been along time since I posted, I have been resently told I now have Fibromylgia. Well I havent had an MRI yet to look for lessions but reading on the interent it seems Fibro is VERY Simliar and close to MS. I dont know what to make of it, yes I'm certainly in TONS OF Pain but I also am having problems with my speech I noticed now like while in a middle of a sentence I either forget what I'm saing or I know what I want to say but I can;t get it out. I have also noticed that my head seems to shake often(not sure sign of ms),still clummsy, my leg/legs would will give out while walking and while walking I dont feel like my foot is hitting the ground like it should. I dont know, but tomorrow going to my dr and asking her if she will order a MRI with and without contrast, I would think that will prove its just fibro or ms with fibro.I just feel in my heart something else going on with me besides just the fibro.I'm a bit confused though on how fibro and ms are simliar I couldnt believe it when I read about both being much alike. Anyway just wondering what ya's all thoughts are on this....Thanks all

" That sucks. I hope you get to the bottom of this and find a way to treat it that works for you.

Auto-immune problems are more likely to come in clusters. If you have one your risk of a second one is greater than the risk of the average population. "

" I think its very possible to have Fibro that mimics MS. I am in limbo with a diagnosis right now and my neuro is going to diagnose me with that if my tests come back ok. I think once everything else has been ruled out THEN Fibro is diagnosed. "

" I sometimes have random pains that feel like a cigarette burn. My neurologist says that MS does not explain that symptom.

Nobody has taken the time to explain it though. Maybe I am just going crazy? "

" ONe certainly can have MS and Fibro...and even Lupus at the same time. They just lump you into a category that best fits your symptoms. I have been dx will all three at one time and even Chronic Fatique Syndome..but now they just say MS because it is predominant.

As for the burning..even in spots...that is nerve pain and certainly can be MS. Most NEUROS are clueless. Search for one that is good. Hard to do, but they are out there...Remember too, they have to cover their butts so they are just careful... "

" As most on this board know...I've been in THIS BOAT for almost 3 years now...have tested for EVERYTHING under the sun...ESPECIALLY MS! Have had 2 brain MRI's..CLEAR...1 C-Spine..."suspicious spot"...& 1 L-Spine...CLEAR! I've also had an EMG, EEG, Visual-Evoked Test, and another "recent' EMG...ALL CLEAR! (except for susp. spot on C-Spine...never fully explained away). AND...here I am...STILL wondering why I seem to be getting worse & worse with time?...as they REPORT that Fibro does NOT cause PERMANENT DAMAGE! Try getting patients like ME to believe that!

I recently read where Fibro "supposedly" causes a "disorder/disruption" of the AUTONOMIC NERVOUS SYSTEM! It would certainly make sense in MY CASE! I don't think that even "Medical Science" yet knows the answer to this one...or a number of other questions regarding Fibro, MS, etc...! All I DO know is that I'm in a "continuously, regressing state of health"...quite literally....A MESS!! Hang in there JMSTULIR...there are many others of us in this boat with you! ;)

" I was diag'd with MS 10 years ago but my wife was more recently diag'd with fibromyalgia... I thought it interesting that her description of what was going on with her fit my symptoms almost to the T. I wonder sometimes if I might have both, but then I suppose it really doesn't matter since the treatments are pretty much the same.

Over the past 10 years I've found that managing the pain for me is easier than managing the drugs that are supposed to allieviate the pain. I opt to take Neurontin as needed but abstain from taking anything else... That way I remain functional and in control. But then again, that's the method "I" choose... :)

The very best to you all! Hugz... Billy "
