Do you have Pets? Do they help you?

Guys, I have not seen much on this board about pets. Many of us have probably heard that having a pet is especially beneficial when ill. I have two cats. I love all animals, but dogs means walking, and so that is not an option. I have discovered having two cats is better than one. They can play with one another when I am not up to giving them attention. They have very different personalities. One is lovable and affectionate, the other is playful and frisky. Both have kept me sane. Anyone else have pets? Do they help you with the MS or other ailments? The only downside is cleaning the cat litter. Yet I discovered a great automatic cat litter box, but discovered it too late. It should really be started when the cats are kittens. It is called the "Litter Robot". It is different from other types of auto litter boxes. It looks like a big globe and rotates on its foundation to shift (must use clumping litter) debris each time the cat uses the box. It has sensors that indicate when a cat is in the box and when the cat has left. About 7 minutes after the cat has left the box, the Litter Robot starts is sifting rotation and deposits the clumps in a container located in the foundation. You just need to dump the bag out of the container (about every 2 to 3 days). There are limitations however. Not every cat will take to this mechanical thing. You may use it on manual and perform the sifting rotation whenever you like. This may prevent the cat from becoming afraid of it. Larger cats have difficulty with it. As I said, it is best to use when the cats are kittens. Only one of my cats will use the Robot. Even still, I am glad to have it. It is expensive, so this too is a limitation, yet think of all of the energy you can save. I would love to hear from others about the pets.

" I have three cats. I am currently tryig to train them to clean the boxes, but they have all stated that they want to join a union.

I did hear about the Robot, but I am still able to clean the boxes, although I have to have someone bring the litter into the house, and I do break it down into much lighter quantities.

As for not being able to give them attention, that is not something I am allowed to be too tired to do. Have you ever been stared down by six eyeballs and three set of paws on hips and tried to argue with that?LOL

My cats keep me going some days. "

" I have a dog and I love him to death. He is little and spoiled but it's worth it. I can still walk him so it's great that I have him as he keeps me going and knows when I don't feel well and will lay with me. Thank goodness I have him. "

" 5 cats, 1 little puggie poo dog, that if I'm too beat to walk, has use of a 3 acre back yard, I can sit in the swing and watch. they are pure entertainment, each with his or her own "voice". all the kitties are rescues and very deserving (read spoiled). I would need lots of robots, and last time I checked, they were still around $100 ea... maybe less now, been over a year, but I can still manage the litter, they are water freaks, so I have fountains and bubblers and big glugging jugs strategically placed around the house. there are huge climbing towers and window sill "kitty ledges", pedestals under many windows for perching and toys absolutely everywhere! with all that said, the dog is my "baby", so imagine all the crap she has... they are my life. " Animals are awesome!! Your little stories crack me up. I have a koity that follows me everywhere. My husband always says I will kick him out of the house before my cat. I did have my beloved Zach (samoyed) for 15 years, but cancer took him from me. I don't have a fence so I choose not to get another dog even though I would love too. I will not pen up or tie up an animal. Pets love you unconditionally how much could you ask for? My house would be so quiet with my crazy cat. Right now she is laying right next to me with a paw on the computer---so sweet. "

" I have three dogs, I walk two of them and my step-son walks the other dog. These dogs give me a purpose to wake up everyday, eventhough I am in pain, they give me something that no other person could every give me. They love me no matter how I feel, how I walk, how depressed I am that day, or if they miss a walk that day. I love my dogs, they give me a purpose to live everyday. "

" Two cats. One of whom is currently standing on my lap, along with my laptop. I can barely see the screen! They get me through the rough days and know when I need looking after.
Oh and now my wrist is her pillow.... "

" I have had Norman for about 4-5 years now. He is a perfect fit for me, he seems to know when I need a little extra attention, and he knows when to leave me alone as well. His only bad habit seems to be that he likes to knock things off of my bedside table, anything that will move is fair game. He is so in tune with my moods, and is happy to be as much of a hermit as I am. he definitely makes my life a little brighter. "
