A few days ago there was a discussion about body fatigue and memory problems and most of you mentioned Provagel/Provigel (still spelling it wrong?)

Just checking to see which it is you were referring to that I could mention at my neuro visit so I can get some of my life back without getting weak so fast and my brain to actually remember things.
Oh yeah, here's a laugh for you.

I threw away my fork and knife from lunch today in the trash which usually my first stop in the kitchen is the sink. HA HA It's not funny I know, because we may soon be missing a lot of eating utensils, but that is the crazy brained things I've been dealing with.

I hope peace and calm moments find you today,

Hugs and High Fives-- Carl

" Oh, I love my Provigil! It gave me my life back! No more cog fog!

I've been on it for at least 10 years. Like all drugs your doc may have to tweak the dose. Be patient, don't medicate yourself, work with doc. What I found is I took 2/3 of the daily dose in the morning, then 1/3 around noon.

I like it becuase it doesn't raise my blood pressure like other drugs have.

For me, it keeps me alert, but not the least bit with no jitters, or hyped up feeling, just back to normal.

Talk to your doc, he/she may have something in mind to start with.

Good luck! "

" hello carl,

I was using Provigil for awhile. However, I rather quickly built up resistance to it at the 200 mg. a day dose. I suppose I could have pursued it further but I never did.
Provigil is an expensive drug, abt. $6.00 a pill!
When I first started taking it it gave me bad insomnia. I also lost weight for the first month or so I was on it.
Too bad that its positive effects (more energy - well sort of I guess) did not last.
It was pretty funny - one day I met up with a young woman that has MS. We talked about Provigil briefly and we both looked at each other and simultaneously said "bullshit speed!".
I don't know why I remember that so well but both of us just about fell over laughing!
Oh well ... next! :) "

" I've taken Provigil a few years now and wouldn't want to be without it, however because of the cost I can't allow myself to increase the dose although I probably would if I could. How does adderall compare cost wise? "

" The cost - let me guess, Bush's bogus "prescription drug plan" either doesn't cover it or it's a Tier One drug. Right? $6 a pill for a daily drug - incredible. "

" Yes, it is a spendy drug. IMO it's really worth it. I will find a way to cut something else out.

It is so worth it! I want to kiss the feet of the person who invented it.

$6 isn't much, when you compare that with being able to function fully.

Other drugs I tried either didn't work at all, or raised my bp to dangerous levels.

Glad there are choices for all of us! "

" Thanks! I am happy that there are plenty of options that work with different people. Now how about that pricey med though? Phweew--- let's hope there is some form of prescription assistance programs through the state of Colorado. But lila, like you said- there really can't be a price tag on a somewhat functioning body.

PS: the "cog fog" that you speak of is just getting ridiculous lol, I will take the television remotes with me into the kitchen instead of my plate, that's what I did tonight without even thinking about it. lordy lordy-- look who's forty! OOOPS I mean like half that age :~) "

" I've used Provigil for about four years. IT WORKS for me.

Fatigue had no effect on my cognitive problems. It take Aricept for that. Perhaps of all the drugs I've taken, Aricept is to me the most valuable. It does NOT make you smarter ! What it does is allow you to better access the smarts you already have.

And yes, I too have thrown away tableware. But since beginning the Aricept it hasn't happened again.

If cost is a problem, try having your prescription for Provigil written for modafinil - its generic name. For Aricept, it is donepezil. "

" I was on Provigil for 2 years until Medicare decided not to approve it any longer. I spent 6 months walking around like a zombie. Thats when my new neuroligist suggested 4AP. He did warn me there is chance for seizure but it was very small. At that point I was willing to try anything to get rid of the fatigue. I started the 4AP in small doses then my doctor put me on full doses. 4AP is not coveredy by insurance. It is only costing me about $30/month. I hadn't realized how much it helped till I ran out and fell and broke my foot. Just remember the pharmacy needs to make the pills for you. Hope this helps..... "

" I tool Provigil for about 2 years then my Insurance quit paying for it. Saying it wasn't approved for MS. The only way they would give it to me is if I had a sleep study and they found I was having problems sleeping. I sleep fine. Just can't think straight and needed energy. They put on Welbutrin (a depression medicine) to help the fatigue but I don't think it works half as well. My new Dr. says I don't have enough cognitive impairment to treat. Maybe I just can't remember what to tell him.HA!! I'll ask again when I go in, in a few months. "
