Hi Everyone,

I am feeling very weak and tired all the time. I have two little girls, 14 months and a 4yr old who want me to play with them and chase them around the house. I feel sooo tired all the time. Can anyone suggest any medicine(traditional or herbal) and/or vitamins I can take to combat my MS fatigue? Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Thanks
Hanna

" I'm sorry, the only thing I know of is to rest. With my fatigue, since its MS, there is nothing but rest that fixes it. :( However, if you are on a MS therapy, the fatigue might improve over time! Mine has gotten a little better. I do things in shifts and take frequent breaks. I delegate tasks where possible to my husband and I make sure that any trips up and down stairs are consolidated so I take as few as possible. I don't have any children, though, so I really don't know what to do because when I watch my nieces they wear me out something fierce! I feel for you! Hang in there! "

" Mental and physical fatigue became a real problem for me in the early 2000's. My doctor had my on Cylert for a time. When Cylert started to get some bad press, she tried Provigil and Ritalin. Neither worked for me. I take Adderall now and it works. Please remember that these are central nervous system stimulants and can be habit-forming. Your doctor can best advise you on the best course of action. "

" thank you for your kind words. I will look into MS therapy and just take it day by day. Taking care of young children can be exhausting but it's definitely worth it!. :) I will take advantage of any good day and chase them around the house.
take care "

" Hi Hanna,

I do take Provigil. It's expensive, but it does work pretty well for me unless I'm having a relapse. Take care.

" Hello, like you I have two small children ages 2 and 5 who love to run about with me. Please look at my profile and journal. I have started LDN with great success. I am completely happy! If you need any help or questions please write back. Someone told me that when I started LDN that I would get my life back. You know, they were right! Please be in good spirit and know that your children will always love you regardless of how much you can play with them. My children know that they are always loved by me even if I am not the one giving them all the attention. Take care. "

" I take Vit B complex, Vitamin D, Multivitamin, and Evening Primrose. However you might want to discuss it with your doctor, due to other medications that can be involved.
My doctor said what i'm taking is okay. And I seem to notice a differance.
Good Luck "

" I tried Provigil and all of the rest. Nothing worked. My doctor suggrsted 4-AP. It helped big time. Ihave an 8 year old, so I understand how you feel. The 4-AP helped big time. You do have to get it from a compounding pharmacy (my doctor gave me a list). At least it did not have the side effects of the other drugs. I hope this helps. "

" sleeping was my normal condition. i have tried 400 mg. provigil; then i tried ritilian--30 g. a day.

now i take 30 mg. adderall extended, and 150 provogil with it. unless you get the right doctor, you have to say, "my friend who has MS had a terrible time with fatigue. then her doctor started giving her above meds until they found the right combination. i need you to help me with this."

if that does not do it, then you need a different doctor who is sensitive to your needs. i know lots of people who take these meds. let me know how you do.

you do not need to live like this.

" Be sure you have had your thyroid checked. I have MS too but just got hit with a wave of fatigue and my thyroid was way slow. I read it can get messed up after having a baby and also certain auto imuune disorders can cause attack your own thyoid gland. They found a nodule in my thyroid too and I am having it checked out but they are going to start me on thyroid medicine which should combat my fatigue. Other than that if it is the MS, rest is in order. I understand that is near to impossible with small children I am a stay at home Mom with a one year old and a 12 yr old. MY one yr old is giving me a run for my money. : o "
