I have been diagnosed with possible MS 6 months ago. Ruled out a bunch of stuff...stroke, lymes, vitamin deficiencies, liver issues... It is fustrating not to have the full diagnosis and feel so odd.

Look normal to others...have a few goods days every once in a while...but most days - fatigue, pain behind left eye, tingling and slight numbness on left side of face, neck, arm, stomach, thigh, calf and foot. The tingling can be itchy, it can feel like bug bites sometimes, it can feel cold sometimes. It moves around. The left side of my lips can feel a bit like novicain and drool in the corner of my mouth. because it is so focused on my left side - I feel lopsided...like droopy on one side of my body. And yet even though I have all these sensations...I can still move without issues. I feel like I should just sit and rest - but I don't - I find movement is better. At times I can't focus or remember things. My arms and legs completely fall asleep every night and wake me out of a sound sleep. And on a personal note - I have to wear a pad daily for urine leakage.

Just curios if others have any ideas on how to handle the odd sensations - the tingling and itchiness and bug bite sensations drive me nuts at times. Especially distracting when I am at work and need to focus.

" I would get a spinal puncture. Its the one sure way to tell if its MS by the proteins they find in your spinal fluid. As far as the numbness, there is nothing to be done. I think most of us just live with it. I know I do. If you have nerve related pain, the gabapentin is good. But JUST for the numbness? Nothing. It does sound like you have MS, though, so I would get a SP right away! Good luck! "

" Get a second opinoin perferably at a teaching hospital with all the toys at thier disposal.
I was DX in 1988 with probable MS went thrugh a couple docs untill I landed up at a teaching hospital in chicago with the head of thier MS clinic. Even if you have to drive a ways it's worth it.
Thier are so many neuro illnesses that it is hard for genreral neuro's to keep up with everything and changes advancements of all diseases the MS clinic at a teaching hospital handles MS if you have you want to be thier as most doc you will find really don't know MS the good ones don't really know what causes it but they will be able to give you soime help. Not complete help but some relief.

And the best advice enjoy and live life. remember that 80% of MSers are ambiltory thier whole life we just have to deal with issues more than others. Somedays a lot more than others but life can be good.

I'm one of the lucky ones. 21 years with MS had lots of bad days but one hell of a lot of great times and a great life so don't stop reaching for the brass ring it is wroth it. "

" The symptoms on the left side of your face and pain behind eye sound like my Trigeminal Neuralgia. TN is a common occurrence with MS.

I do not have the kind of TN that comes and goes. My pain and tingling are constant. Started out with my left upper lip going numb once in a while. I take Tegratol and Cymbalta to control the pain.

Get a second opinion like charchar said. "

" Actually there is no definitive test for MS, even with the spinal tap. I think there are a small number of patients with MS who will test negative on a spinal tap. Also, there are a very large number of patients who will test positive on a spinal tap even if they do not have MS.

Getting the spinal tap makes the diagnosis of MS a little more probable but its pretty far from definitive. It might help you get a diagnosis but I personally wish I had refused it. "
