hello again
now i'm wondering ...
what's your diet like? have you changed it any since your diagnosis?
i'm looking at the swank and another diet thinking i may try one but man i love my coffee and chocolate. i may have to cheat on those.
also, exercise...anyone practice yoga? qi gong or tai chi? so far, i'm trying a really toned down form of yoga but even that is a challenge! i also walk until my foot starts dragging or i get the numb-tinglies (about 10 mins).
hugs & best to all.

" You know what, I just started doing yoga, and holy cow! That's a work out!!! I got a yoga for beginners DVD at Target, and I do a 30-minute session each night, and it really helps me get limber. I know it's supposed to relax me, and I guess it does, because it first wears me out.

:)

I think Tai Chi is a good idea, too. I'm wanting to try it. Do you like it?

I'm wanting to do a better diet, my diabetes dietitian is hounding me to, and when they put me on steroids to deal with my vision loss because of my MS, I gained a bunch of weight that I"m now trying to lose.

Good thoughts! "

" I am still in the habit of pretty much eating what I want to eat, I think about getting more selective in my diet, thinking has not turned to action...YET!
as for excercise, I find that just consistantly working out makes ALL the difference, sometimes just stretching and moving, there are a whole lot of movement that can be done on all fours or just lying on the ground. It definitly makes a difference.

" I read a post on here last week where someone had mentioned "The MS Recovery Diet" so I bought the book and found it very informative. It went along with all of the nutrition research I have done on line and does use info from the Swank diet. I have been making changes for about 21/2 months now and although it hasn't helped my symptoms yet I do feel better overall. The book says it can take a long time for symptoms to be completely gone as your body goes through the healing process. I figure its worth it and you can do it along with your meds and get the same results. Good Luck in your journey. "

" What we did with diet is below but taking out 90% of our gluten helped big time. Get a RAST blood test for allergies ie eggs, beans, nuts, dairy and gluten. If you score higher than a 2.5 on anything then stay away from it too.

Below are the anti-inflammation supplements we are taking.

" I was vegetarian and then vegan for a while. The removal of dairy was excellent. However, when I removed gluten from my diet, I really noticed the difference. What I mean is not that my MS got better. What has happened is that the systems in my body work better, and therefore I feel better.

I have done yoga most of my life, but I have had to modify it due to the MS. One thing that I think is very important is the help it gives with circulation. I worry alot about relative inactivity, and I think that streching really well helps to fight atrophy all over, brings oxygen, and limits the amount of spasms I get.

Good Luck on this...it really helps to help you body work. "

" i started a wheat and gluten free diet today. yay. i loaded the carriage with all good fresh foods and some wheat/gluten free breads and pastas to try.
i'm doing yoga - a really toned down type - daily and it does really help me with stiffness, pain and mobility.
tai chi, i've only done a couple of times. i have a harder time concentrating/focusing with that. why, i don't know.

thanks for your input everyone. i appreciate it!
hugs & best. "

" Chocolate makes my symptoms instantly worse, and coffee is bad for MS.

Tai Chi and Yoga is great for MS.

Look up the anti-inflammatory diet. Its basically lots of whole grains and veggies, fish, flax, certain* nuts, and lots of alkaline foods. It reduces dairy fat, red meat, simple sugars with high glymeci index (not all carbs), and certain inflammatory compounds like those found in peanuts and chocolate.

Chocolate can be hard for some people. Carob is still an option though. "

" At least I can still smoke pot. That is one vice that might actually benefit MS rather than worsen it. "

" What I have done is try to get some fresh produce before every meal, eat no dairy at all,
have non-gluten bread & eat lots of fish & other seafood.

But cut out cofee & chocolate, no way!! "

" Actually DARK chocolate is still good for you and loaded with antioxidants..it is the milk chocolate that isn't great for you. "
