Hey guys,
Quick question.. My fiance and I are planning on making a donation to a MS organization and wanted some opinions from the group as far as which foundation would use our money most appropriately. Rather than handing out favors at our wedding, we decided that a donation from us would do more good than a silly thing that most people would eventually throw out. We are considering MSAA or National MS Society, any opinions? We would be open to other organizations as well Posted on 07/01/09, 09:07 am |

Thank you to everyone for the replies, there were a lot of great suggestions here... Colleen are going to sit down this weekend and discuss some of the different options. I'll let you know what we choose!

As Chritmas gifts to our children, we made a donation to MS. Our Daughter works for a Christian Radio station "KSBJ" This station will match the amount donated. This station has sister stations through the US.

I've had MS for over 20 years, and I have used services from several of the MS organizations. In addition, I am a self-help group co-facilitator and have contact with several organizations.
For me, a single womyn living on SSDI, the MS Asso. of America has paid the Medicare deductible TWICE for my for MRIs. They also have lots of helpful programs that support we MSers like cooling equipment and self-help things like grab bars for bathrooms. I'm also very fond of the MS Foundation in Florida who also has patient assistance programs AND gives our little Positive Purpose MS support group $50 a month--THIS SOUNDS LIKE ONLY A LITTLE but it is HUGE HERE IN COW COUNTRY where we are all struggling with this economy and nearly 14% unemployment (YIKES!) I also work with the National MS Society and they pay for our holiday party each year and provide a budget for other events. Both the NMSS & MSF do mailings for our group meetings as well. You know, we all know how important the research is. That said, I also think that SERVICES for we MSers are very vitally important especially in a county such as mine with such limited resources. CONGRATS AND GOOD LUCK WITH EVERYTHING!! xoxoxo Cj (Cindyjo)

My two cents worth? Go with the MSAA.

I would give to the Montel Williams foundation and to NORML.
I would also probably give to MSAA before donating to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. I know they do some good work with advocacy and awareness, but I dont entirely approve of how their money is spent. If you are feeling really generous, I am about 15k in medical debt and currently out of work. I am applying for SSI, but its very difficult when you are young with an invisible disease to get benefits.
