Fatigue - suggestions?

I think fatigue is my worst symptom. It comes and goes so is worse at some times than at other times. Right now is one of those bad times. I don't know what causes it to get worse, I just know when its been day after day and I'm so exhausted I can barely concentrate. Does anyone have any great suggestions on dealing with fatigue? I have take Provigil in the past, didn't really seem to help much. I still have my Rx, I could start taking them again, but I would rather not if there are other things I could be doing. Anyone?

" thank you soooo much for posting this butterfly!!!
I have this same problem. Im on my last 2 days of steroids (the tapper down kind) and unfortunetly my energy has tappered away with the roids. it really is depressing. the fatigue is back full blown and now that Im fully aware of what I use to fill like a few years ago due to the roids it makes the fatigue feal even worse. I also tried provigil when I was first DX. but didnt like the way it made me feal. now that Im so aware of how much my gulity of life has been deminished due to this fatigue Im pretty opened minded to much more.
I hope we can get some answers. thanks again.

" I've liked Amantadine ever since I was diagnosed. It is an Antiviral and nobody knows why it has the effect for some MSers to alleviate the almost "mind numbing" fatigue I would get.

It is also fairly inexpensive. I take 100 mg twice a day morning and about noon. For me it is not like Cylert or others that make you 'speedy'.
Good-luck.

" I won't make any friends with this suggestion, but here it goes. Having dealt with MS for nearly 14 years with fatigue being very debilitating at times, I started a walking program at the beginning of 2006, even in the January snow. I have worked up to about 5 miles most days (I wear a pedometer which motivates me to keep doing it--10,000 steps a day, just under 5 miles, is the recommendation of the American Heart Asso.).

What can I say except that on the days that I don't do the walking, I am very sluggish and tired. When I find myself yawning at 2 - 3 p.m., I walk my dogs out to get the mail (almost a mile round trip), and it gives me the energy to continue my day.

Mind you, I tell the puppups that I "punched out" at 6 p.m., but that's about right for them as well (two mini Schnauzers). When I'm really tired, I get moving. By 6 p.m., I can no longer feel my legs, but I'm definitely done for the day by then.

Remember, I warned you I would not make friends with this suggestion, but I am very skiddish about drugs (as something to do with the 5 inch scar Betaseron left on my leg after over 8 years--seems it was a "rare" side-effect (lucky me).

Good luck and feel free to write if you wish. xo Cj "

" I take Amantadine, 100mg, at like 7:30 or 8 in the morning and again at lunch time. I can't tell that it changed anything but in hindsite I realize I was just not so tired I always felt I had to put my head down. I also don't think it is too expensive. If it works for you you should give it a rest for about 2 weeks annually.

" Well, this is going to sound so profound but diet and exercise. I have found that high protein, high fiber, low fat diet with a good vitamin regimen and exercise stopped the fatigue I had almost completely. I also took out white sugar, anything with enriched ingredients and took out gluten for a while, although I now just eat whole grains. There is superb cereal that is organic called Optimum Slim, it is high in protein and fiber, but very low in fat and sugar. It works great to get me going in the morning. I use Stevia now instead of sugar. No fried foods. And staying active. Antioxidants CoQ10 with L-Arginine and Alpha Lipoic acid helps with memory and gives me a boost. I also take Gingko and have taken it for 7 years now and my memory is 99% better after my original head injury. I also take Vitamin E, Calcium, D, the Omega's and GLA with good multivitamins. Even if it doesn't completely wipe out your fatigue, it certainly won't hurt your health in any way. I feel much better. But not everyone can take herbs, so be careful with them. Good luck and God Bless.

" Diet plays a part in my fatigue. When I eat white flour products, I feel really icky. So I stay away from them and dairy. Have you looked into LDN? That helps me. Also, resting. I rest as much as I can. I have learned and still learning when to stop. Mentally I can go, but physically I can't. Its hard to get the 2 in sync, but I try..... "
