Chest/back muscle tightness

Does anyone else have tight muscles in upper chest (mid breast and above) along with neck upper back/shoulder tightness that they believe is related or caused by their MS? This tightness causes pain when breathing, so that the more I breathe, (like with activity such as walking) the more it hurts to breath.

Is this what others experience with the MS hug? This has been going on since Oct 07, so I know it is not an emergency. Muscle relaxers do help, but i have to take them constantly and stretch every day.

This problem has greatly curtailed my activites since it started so I am anxious to hear if others have experienced this.

Docs are mixed on what this is.

" What I get that I think is akin to the MS Hug or is the MS Hug is located right through my nipples and around my back at that same level. It is scary not knowing if it is the MS Hug or my heart. The best description I can give it will make sense to women who have had babies. It is like a labor contraction and it gets pretty intense, enough to make you sit up straighter and catch your breath. My neuro sent me for an EKG and it was fine. I haven't had one in a while, they are very sporadic and they don't last very long. "

" Glad I found you.....I have had MS for a number of years and have experienced about every kind of problem, like most of you, I suspect. This latest is what I am beginning to believe is what is called the MS hug. It is mostly in my upper chest. It is quite dibilitating compared to all my other symptoms at the moment. Even though I can take a deep breath, it is not without pain and a really tired feeling. I do not think it is my heart at all. I have had about 100 EKG's over my lifespan and hate to have tests done all the time...The greatest pain is behind my right breast but then I also have a feeling like I am wearing the tighest bra on earth...My daughter who is a massage therapist will rub my spine only because I insist on it. It definitely helps some. Apparently rubbing ones spine is a big no no for a massage therapist...but it sure helps me. Is there anything else out there that can help? HA HAH "

" Jan...apparently...as I'm JUST now figuring many of my symptoms out...I've been having this one since I was about 20 yrs old. I've been getting these sudden & severe cases of this "severe chest pain, with incredible tightness" for the better part of my life. As with ALL my symptoms...they started out as "periodical", then gradually increased to "often!" Dr.'s have been telling me for years, that I'd just "pulled a muscle"...or something similar!

Then, when ALL my neurological symptoms literally DROPPED ME TO MY KNEES in the early spring of 2007, I was "supposedly" diagnosed with PLEURISY (same symptoms)...repeatedly!

Then, I got this again back in June of this year...new Rheumy did an X-Ray...NO PLEURISY...ALL lung cavities CLEAR...inside & out! So...have I been experiencing the MS HUG all this time??? IDK?...but in light of the fact that I've been dealing with major Migraines, due to SEVERE neck/shoulder stiffness for over 15 yrs...requiring ongoing treatment....YOU WOULD THINK THAT AT LEAST ONE OF MY FOUR NEURO's WOULD HAVE PICKED UP ON SOME OF THIS SX HISTORY!....SOMEWHERE along the way!! Good luck to you...as I STILL have no Dx for MS...only FIBRO! ;)

" Yes I have this all the time. Personally I find it miserable. Lyrica helps some and naproxen, if my stomach can handle it. Sometimes I think it's related to a drop in barometric pressure. "
