Ok. I had 3 doses of solumdrol and I feel like shit. I can't sleep, my back is spasming like crazy and I still have that horrible metal taste in my mouth. I just don't feel good. Has anyone else had bad reactions to it?

Hi Kat, the metal taste is very common and normal. When are you taking it and is it by IV? When I was on it, I would take it by 5-6 AM, otherwise I'd be too wired to sleep later. Some docs will prescribe a sleeping pill to help ease you out of it in the evening. Never heard of the back spasms from Solumedrol, maybe it's the MS. Maybe you should call the doc?

All of these symptoms are normal for Solumedrol, at least from my own experience. I just did 2 3-day rounds in the last 6 weeks. I ached all over, was terribly thirsty, couldn't sleep at all no matter what time of day I took it, and when the 3 days were over, I crashed for about 3 more days. Don't mean to frighten you, I'm just being honest, but you WILL recover.

I agree with Deb. All your reactions are normal. I have found side effects have differed greatly depending on the length of treatment: I have done five day courses and once monthly courses. Either way, there were side effects, but they differed with each length. I have also found the length of time the drip goes in (ie, 3hr vs 1hr) affects which side effects I have. Ultimately I usually feel worse on the steroids (and on the Rebif) than I do on nothing, but I want happy MRI results, so what must be must be. I hope you're feeling some relief soon.

I usually do the 3 day solumedrol treatments, but my dr. adds 1mg of dilaudid and 25mg of phenergan to the mix (I get them IV before they start the solumedrol). I get irritable by the third day, and days 4-6 (after treatment) I am really tired. After that, everything evens out, and I feel really good for several months.
Good luck!!

I did 5 days solumedral 1000mg. It made me really tired then had the speed feeling on the crash, my jerk dr at the time(fired him) did not get me the tritation pack to wean off the roids. I sucked on mints during the iv and sprite. Yeah since then I had dry mouth and my dental problems flared up really bad, breaking teeth for no reason, etc. Yeah I tossed and turned not much sleep. I will not ever do that again. I had to b/c I lost sight and my eye was going all over so had to for my optic neuritis. And my new dx of ms oct 06. Will never forget it! I hate roids, would rather do without. 5 days of 1000mg is the most a body can handle and it knocked me down, I was worse since then my ms took me down after that.
sorry but i hate roids now.
