OPTIC NEURITIS

I've had a nasty case of Optic Neuritis in my left eye for many years without any kind of improvement. Now it's spread a little into the right eye but not as bad.
Is there anybody out there who has had Optic Neuritis and made it better?
How did you do it?
I'm just not getting any answers from my doctors.

Spreading to to the right eye? is uncommon, but not impossible.Did you have any steroid treatments for yoy optic neuritis? The sonner the treatment the. I am still mostly blind in my left eye, I see shapes and some movement....before that nothing.

" I had optic neuritis recently after first being dx. It gave me double vision. I had a course of IV steroids. The optometrist made me some glasses with a prism on them which corrected the double vision while I was wearing them. This was pooh poohed by the neuro but worked brilliantly for me. After about two months it has almost completely gone. "

" what I was trying to explain is this. Wish optic neuritis the there is swelling, and that swelling can damage the optic nerve. I was given IV steroids and oral steroids and I am pretty much blind in my left eye. I can see some fuzzy shapes...and movement buts is really fuzzy and blurry. I can't make out much at all with my left eye...Someone walks up on my left, if I don't hear them it scares me, cuz I can't see them approach.
many hugs

" When I had optic neurotis I was given steroid eye drops which didn't help, and then they did a direct steroid injection into my eye....sounds much worse that it really was. But after getting the injection into the eye, it formed a cataract, so now I have a cataract in my eye as well as the optic neuritis, uveitis, and retinitis pigmentosa. Basically everything has been wrong with my eyes for about 2 years now....nothing seems to help it get better. I'm basically completely blind in my right eye, can't even see how many fingers are getting help up just a foot in front of me...not fun. So do answer your question, no onthing made my optic neuritis better. but there may be some people out there that it did, if you find out though, let me know. I would love to be able to see outta my right eye again...

" I had a problem for about six months with one of my eyes..dark area in the middle of my sight. I read somewhere that lutein was beneficial to eyesight, after a couple of months I mostly got my vision back in that eye. I have no idea if lutein actually helped but if it happens again I will do it again. "

" This was a great post...I'm totally going to try the lutein and ask about the steroid eye drops next time I see one of my 2 opthalmologists...I have some permanent damage in my right eye, resulting in crappy color saturation and a scotoma (blind spot), and now my left one is acting up on me. Great resources all!! xoxoxoxo "
