I have always walked a lot for exercise and I enjoy it, exercise class was aerobics. Wondered what ds ppl do for exercise because walking now is out. I have a pool so I swim but that is also going to close here pretty soon. Any suggestions?

" I use a treadmill. An exercise bike is what my doctor recommends for me. There are some yoga exercises at the mymsyoga.com site - did you get a free DVD? There's also one for MS aerobics. I think they can be found at the MSAA.com site too. "

" Elliptical trainers are popular for those with difficulty walking, small hand weights and hand grips for upper strength, extra large mat for stretching fist thing in the morning. That's a great yoga site lorrieonline thanks for sharing! "

" Hi

I do everything I can seating or flat. Everything I learned at PT. I also bought online bike pedals, I use those for upper body exercises. We use balls, bands, hand held and ankle weights.

The most important exercise equipment is the heart,,,from there comes the will, the desire, perseverance to get up and do it.

My daughter and I motivate and push each other because we understand the importance of maintaining muscle mass.

All that equipment cost me aprox $60.

" I've got a recumbent exercise bike, which I find really good as it doesn't affect my balance issues (upper body still), my legs have gotten quite weak, this really helps, it is very noticeable if I haven't used it for a couple of days. Of course it isn't the same as getting out - I just put some music on. close my eyes and imagine speeding down country lanes (got a good imagination). I also do upper body stretches whilst on it, and use hand weights. "

" Like Juls65, I got a recumbent exercise bike. Would you believe, I got it for free from Freecycle. I actually asked for a walker to use for balance for exercising and got a exercise bike. It was a miracle. I had no idea that it was a recumbent bike until I got it home. It was the absolute best thing that happened to me. I LOVE IT. I have worked up to 23 minutes at a time and it is in front of the TV. I can climb onto it because there is no high bar. It low to the ground. And it is so much easier than walking.

Even though I can't walk that far, this bike has great back support and I can bike on it. I started at about 7 minutes and slowly built up to 23 minutes once or twice a day. It is helping me lose weight. I strongly recommend it. I would pay a thousand dollars to replace it if I had to because it is so great. But it was free.

Go on Freecycle, tell them you are disabled and are looking for a exercise bike or something along those lines. Even a walker can help you exercise to an old VHS tape. I have done that before I got the bike.

Best of luck. Great post question. "

" I used to run. And work out at a gym. Now, I can't.

So now I use a bike w/o resistance (sadly), stretch, core exercises and 3 sets of 12 with the 8 to 10 pound dumbells, (curls and French presses).

Do what ever you can, and you'll be that much better and stronger for it. Strengthing the parts of your body that work still. For me it's my arms/hands.

" When I was at home I used

AeroPilates it is the best thing I have ever used & the safest.
well worth the money.

Once my legs were not so good I could not exercise. but we need to. so now what.
I found this machine & fell in love with it.
B/c when you are exercising your legs you are laying on your back so at most your legs fall down but you do not.
I wish I found it earlier.
you can exercise your legs all you want.
also if you are like me when going for walks it can happen that you can not walk back. Exercising in your home if you get tired all of a sudden you do not have to walk back home.

another plus is a beginner can use the machine and an advance person can use the same machine. One for all levels

if you have any ?'s pm me.

hope this helps
take care of you "

" there are several chair programs that you can do from a seated position. Several DVDs or videos on youtube you can use.

They have a bike pedal thing that you sit on the floor and use while you sit in your chair or the couch.

Yoga does a lot of exercises while sitting on the floor. There are some standing ones, but that is why I love yoga, you can change it to fit you!

You can lay on the floor and do sit ups or push ups and stretches.

Watch a DVD of a dance class and just sit on the couch and use your arms and upper body to do what you can. Adjust YOUR routine to fit what YOUR body can do.

Swimming is an excellent exercise. Walking is good, but be careful to choose level ground and have someone go with you. It may be prudent to have someone follow you with a wheel chair in case you get too tired, they can wheel you home. Go out to the porch and go in. Go to the mailbox and go in. go across the street and go in. go to the neighbors house and go home.

A stationary bike is good too, but be careful that you are steady and not wobbly.

Im so happy to hear that you are not just sitting down and letting this thing come get you. "
