For anyone who hasen't watched or read the transcript for this recent webcast of specialists, I thought this was good information. http://www.nationalmssociety.org/multimedia-library/webcasts--podcasts/index.aspx
It inspired me to research some key points. There are ways of repairing nerve damage. Obviously, the specialists are looking at this from the angle of proposing new treatments and surgeries such as the stem cell replacement therapy but it looks to me like we can take this bull by the horns with our diet and exercise.

Usually I get a daily influx of emails on health topics. An article from Dr. Mercola really stood out recently though because it mentioned that fat cells have their own mitochondria. Not only was this the first I'd heard of this, he also mentioned that fat serves a purpose in our metabolism. Another new factoid for me. The bottom line for me was to appreciate that even our fat cells play a...

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
In this webcast they made a comment "And if you give a contrast agent called gadolinium, it might light up and show you that it's actively inflamed. Now, the majority of those lesions will get smaller as the inflammation resolves. And the lesion may disappear, in about 25% of cases will disappear"
Yeah I think naturally reducing inflammation is STILL a good idea..and what do you think?
Thanks for sharing Lorrie. Best wishes,
EP
I think overall the diet, exercise (what little of it I can manage) and supplements are truly helping :)
Try 4 capsules of lion's mane mushroom a day. Lately I've also added 8 capsules of sphingolin a day. Its a basic myelin protein made from cattle.
I will say though that if you do not have the fat, little protein and B vitamins needed for regrowth then this (Lion's Mane) alone would not be enough. However, if taken with the good fats ie GLA, EPA/DHA, CLA and B vitamins (and possibly myelin from cows...still need to research this one) it might help. It would be interesting to see if this could help more than just you Humunculus.
Best wishes to all,
EP

The URL you added is very good. I'll have to look into the "The better brain book"
I will say a few things about my thoughts on this link. Overall I like it and I agree with it from everything I have read in raw research. The 2 caveats are the hair sample test which I have really heard bad things about. Ie Doctors sending in 2 samples from the same person and getting 2 different results. I have read this by multiple different doctors. So it is not reliable way for testing at the cell level.
The second is that from the recent MS research I have read (ironic it is the oldest I have read too back to 1965) MS is low on GLA (omega 6) not just EPA/DHA and many now are also low on CLA which helps get fats to where they need to go. This goes along with the blood results I got back for my hubby (asked the GP to do them) over a year ago.
So summation:
1.) GOOD URL
2.) skip the hair testing and
3.) add GLA + CLA to the EPA fatty acids they suggest
Thanks for posting Lorrie! ( :
In some cases damage is done. However, if someone with MS has.... lets say severe issues such as going BLIND. When they are given anti-inflammation steriods many times they get their sight back. So reducing the inflammation reduced pressure on the nerve and a person can regain function. So a person can do better with less inflammation. These are neurologist by trade reading research that wrote... "And if you give a contrast agent called gadolinium, it might light up and show you that it's actively inflamed. Now, the majority of those lesions will get smaller as the inflammation resolves." Then continues on to say "And the lesion may disappear, in about 25% of cases will disappear"
So they seem to confirm that inflammation is part of what is doing damage and reducing it can help the health and functioning of many with MS.
If you have lesions disappear and get function back after reducing inflammation then I think the answer is clear. I am not sure if your comment was aimed at this article or Humunculus's comment of her reduced # of lesions? If it is aimed at her comment then I guess you would have to ask her if she has had any improvement to functioning and if so what?
Anywho hope all of you have a wonderful weekend,
EP
Still, I think that diet is just as important. I do not think that necessarily the anti-inflammation diet equates to repair of myelin. I do not know. This is something that remains to be seen.
So, in the meantime, I eat a really good diet, but I am not as strict as Lorrie. I personally cannot give up all of the caffeine but I limit it to about 8 oz a day or less. And I try to limit my sugar and drink no alcohol. More power to you if you have the will power.
Eating fresh vegetables, and a good healthy diet is extremely important in my eyes. But I am not as strict as some of you. But if you can follow it more power to you. I know I feel a lot better if I eat well.
Please keep us informed. I love the information and keep it flowing. Thanks.
Could say I have brain atrophy!!
I hate to be the very first person to sarcastically point this out; but if the government of any country finds a way to clone humans, and they decide they want to, they WILL. Who's going to stop them, YOU? Not likely. Try it, see how quick you "disappear".
Ok, that horseshit being said...think about this:
**The potential is most likely limitless. Possibly anyone you have ever known to have suffered and/or died of almost anything, could be talking to you over a cup of coffee as we speak.**
Conjure up any emotions?
Call me a conspiracy theorist (although many of history's theories have been proven, and are now accepted as a Law..hmph) but I'd venture to say that the multi-billion dollar a year pharmaceutical companies are NOT in love with the idea of ratifying maybe hundreds of illnesses. Talk about job loss and company instability. Not to mention the worldwide resource famine that would be caused if people lived twice as long and 100 times healthier. Matter of fact...I'd like to stop looking for a cure/arrest of this disease if we could, please. It's for the good of the economy, society as a whole, and patriotism. I'll fall on that grenade, no worries. Take one for the team, ya know??---Hey, people will still get hit by buses. It would just mean that those Currently suffering might not have to. But who really cares about Those people? Let 'em suffer, right? "Ain't me.".... Gotta love that thought process. Spot on..
Clones...of course...let's not forget the f'n clones....
Those "healthy" people, I'll tell ya!! Always with that Herd-mentality. Then the tears start streaming when THEY get sick, lol! Then they expect YOU to listen, maybe even display empathy!! Please. The day I show compassion for an inhumane, subhuman, heartless hypocrite is the day a self-inflicted bullet rips through my own lesion-addled brain. =8^D
