Please describe the eye pain you have due to your MS. I have stabbing pain in the back of my eyes. It doesn't last long but comes and goes frequently.
Thanks
Amy

" I had ON twice already that were treated with steroids. The usual presentation of MS ON includes pain. But I didn't have that in my previous 2 ON episodes. There I lost vision periphreal then it went to the center.

But this time I had pain with it. The pain came before the vision loss, so I didn't recognize it. It is as you say. Pain in the back of my eyeball that makes me want to pull my eyeball out of the socket and wipe the back off, then return it to the socket. But as yo say its intermmittent, that feeling might come on for a while then go.

But I had a headache all the time. I began to suspect that headache was from that intermittent eye pain. i thought perhaps eye strain, maybe I needed new lenses.

I made an appointment with an optomitris to get my vision checked. I could only get 2/10 color numbers right in that eye that had intermittent pain. The optomotrist did not think the headaches were from eye strain needing new lenses, but I thought the problem with seeing colors was probably ON, and reported it to the neuro.

I'm on 5 days of IV steroids now. The eye pain has stopped, but the headache lingers a little. Its only day 3 of IV steroids, 2 more days to go plus the taper.

Perhaps get your vision checked. I just went to Walmart and got it checked the day after I called for an appointment. Apparently color vision comes with pain in my experience. "

" for me it's kind of like a throbbing pain at the back of my eye towards the top. I did get some headaches along with the pain as well. If you look around, there are some optometrists that are also specialized in neurology. They would have better answers about your eye pain. "

" For me, my eye kind of aches especially if I am tired. It feels weaker than the other one as well. I'll take that over the double vision anyday though. "

" Thank you all for sharing this with me. I have had one dr tell me she saw in a photo of my eyes some demylenation. The next dr says he sees nothing. The neuro says I don't exhibit the symptoms of MS so I just go on until other things happen. The eye pain is not new by any stretch but I was just curious if mine was like anyone elses.
Thanks again for your responses.

" the ON presents for me as like my eyes are really tired and they burn but then sometimes its an intermitten stabbing pain. It has presented different almost everytime. But I know it is the same thing cause my vision gets fuzzy and my eyes won't focus and my eyes feel really tired and I can no longer keep them open. It makes people think I am going to sleep on them but I am not. I have it about every five weeks then I get steroid shots for 3 days straight that usually makes it better for about 5 weeks and then it starts all over again. This seems to be my worse symptom for right now. "

" The pain that I have in the back of my eyes are like little needles stabbing me. Then I get pain in the corner of my upper eyes and then sometimes my eyes go up and have spasms, thank God it is not all the time. "
