Okay so ive started this med on 2/4/08 and still have had SERIOUS burning and muscle spasms 5-10 times a day...So i did some research, and i decided to change my whole diet up! ITS WORKING!!! its only been 2 days and ive been eating nothing but grilled chicken, and some kind of rice..veggies,fruits ect. cut out all meats but chicken..and its gotta be grilled..anyway, my burning and spasms ONLY 4 TIMES IN THE PAST 2 DAYS! and i can walk longer and FASTER, i feel like im simply RECOVERING FOR ONCE..
so my question is SHOULD I WING MYSELF FROM THE GABAPENTIN...i mean i gave it a month with no progress except when i changed my diet, i gaurentee if i ate a bag of patato chips i will be in pain all night! if not now, THEN WHEN???? PLEASE HELP Posted on 03/07/09, 04:03 pm |

It is more likely that it is actually the Gabapentin, and not the diet, which has finally reduced the sensory issues Do not wean off without contacting your neuro first. The burning and tingling that is present in NMO, are neurological in nature, resulting from the damage accrued during the acute attack.
I took 2400 mgs per day for two years, and weaned off slowly. Gracie

HI RED
I WOULDNT GIVE UP THE GABAPENTIN, BUT CUT DOWN..IM GLAD THE DIET IS WORKING, BUT THE GABAPENTIN TAKES ABOUT 2-3 WEEKS TO GT INTO THE SYSTEM, AT LEAST FOR ME, BUT I ONLY TAKE 2 A DAY...IF NEEDED ONLY AND I EAT GOOD TOO, BUT IM NOT STRICT ON MEATS HUGS

I am on 3 a day and have that same burning- I will discuss with my neuro in April- good info to know. I just might try your diet as well.
