MM plus hoarse voice

I've had a problem with hoarseness for 2 years. After the ENT wanted to perform an operation on my esophagus to prevent acid reflux, I demanded a blood test. (Since the only symptom of acid reflux I was having was a hoarse voice). Well after the blood test, my life has been turned upside down.
I'll be starting my first chemical regime on Monday. The revimide with the steroid (I'll figure out how to spell these things soon enough). Anyhow, they are still confused as to the cause of voice hoarseness. I have no other symptom of ill health what so ever. No symptoms of MM and no symptoms of GERD (other than the hoarseness). When I think scary thoughts, I can't help but think that a tumor is growing and hitting the laryngeal nerve and is disrupting my speaking. This MM is bad enough, but not being able to talk about it makes it so, so much worse. I am finding myself withdrawing from public and I used to be a very, gregarious guy. Last night was like pulling teeth to get me out to the local football game, but my wife needs me as much as I need her now, so I can't force her into a reclusive lifestyle. I'm going to lie about my true health issues as long as I can--is that a weird approach or what? Posted on 09/26/09, 08:09 pm |

Listen, your wife can be your best friend. My husband is battling MM too. I'm inclined to think you're hoarseness is due to the earlier procedure. But please, don't exclude those who will be the best support system. This is a great place to start! This is a bone marrow issue and doesn't have much to do with your larynx. Talk to your dr about it. This is scary when you try to do it all alone. We're here to help. Take care, Sarah
