Profuse sweating from the head

Hi everyone! I am now into my 6th year of myeloma and one of my most annoying problems I have is that I am having increasing sweating - primarily from my head! Its as though a shower tap has been turned onto my hair and the drips just pour down my neck -- its not sweating from my whole body, just from my head. I carry a dry washcloth to wipe my forehead when this happens, but ultimately I look as though I have just stepped out of a shower. Is anyone else having this problem, and if so, how do you solve it? Is it caused by the myeloma, drugs for pain, or the chemo? Any suggestions gratefully appreciated. Cath

" My husband would have profuse sweating from only his head. I think it was from medications. He doesn't have that symptom anymore so maybe yours will disappear as well. "

" I have the same problem, as I write this my hair is drenched as if just out of the shower. I'm not sure what causes it but it is new for me so I figure it is part of the chemo or mm. "

" My husband is havig the sweating problem. He had it earlier this year and then it stopped for a while. Now it has started back again. It is as you said just on his head. He has asked his oncologist about it, but she hasn't figured out what is causing it. Is anyone else that is having this problem on Lasix? The reason we are asking is because of the Lasix being for water retention. "

" Hello 1clem..- your question is a very good one as I too was wondering if using something that would promote water retention might help. But given your experience it sounds as though it won't make any difference!! Thanks for your input!! "

" Hi Poppycath, We are still trying to figure out what was going on differently when he had quit the sweating. If we find out anything, I will be sure to leave a post. I know all this has to be frustrating. I stand by Joseph in this fight, but I cannot imagine what it's like to be in your's and his shoes. Take care. 1clemsontiger "

" I have this problem also, which I attribute to the pain meds...then again maybe it is just another symptom? My dx for now has been MGUS (3-2008) but I have a tumor on my spine which the Dr's refuse to biopsy. I also have extreme hip pain for which they have found no cause. Just make sure that you get more than one opinion. Seems that MM is extremely hard to dx in some people. "

" I went into remission for 2 years and now MM is coming back. I also have noticed this sweating. I have found it so strange since I never sweated from my face at all and now my forehead drips and people run to get me a chair. It occurred both when I was in remission and now when it is coming back. I drip from my forehead but more than that, I think I get dehydrated. I sometimes just start feeling overheated and results in me throwing up and feeling like I am suffering from heat stroke. Of course I live in south Texas also. So I wonder if it changed my body chemistry somehow or some of the many meds I am on now is causing it. It wasn't caught very soon and I take lots of pain meds and other stuff trying to control the damage. If anyone has an idea I would love it. It literally makes me ill and I think it is because it is hard to stay hydrated. "

" MsDownshift. My MM started with extreme hip pain. I had the same issues. I couldn't walk for a while and it gradually went away and then came back. No one diagnosed me me for over 2 years and by the time they did, it had caused compression fractures in my back which made me unable to move for a long time. They gave me lots of Zomata which helped and now I have kidney stones. Does anyone have any idea about kidney stones and zomata and any other treatments? Thanks. "

" I too have had problems with kidney stones since having MM, even though I am drinking at least 3 litres of water every day. Several of you mention medications as being a possible cause of the sweating -- what meds. are you on?? I am currently on 10mg of Revlimid, 300mg of Fentanyl patches, 3oomg Gabapentin for neuropathy caused by Velcade/Thaid., low dose asprin and 3 odourless garlic tablets (to stop diverticulitis!). Are any of you who are experiencing the head sweats currently on any of these medications?? "

" Hi, I just joined this chat group. I also have Multiple Myeloma with heavy head sweating that has caused severe dehydration on several occasions. I know it's summer and I live in a hot clime (Calaveras Cty, CA). Mine started about a year ago, but wasn't as bad then as it is now. Profuse sweating from my head akin to rain drops falling. The result is that I feel very weak and off balance (like a drunk!). My oncologist wants blood work done to make sure it's nothing metabolic first. His nurse has heard of the association. I've found what helps me is Salt tablets and Gatorade "
