I never thought I would find site like this, after months of searching for something like it on another search engine.
I just want to express my gratitude. My father was diagnosed with MM last summer, and it was such a shock and such a horror to everyone in my family. Life just stopped at that point. Everything changed. It's like there's no going back. We have all dropped everything and are trying to do anything we can to help. My mother is the primary caregiver, and she has been so brave, courageous and so selfless. I know this sounds selfish, but it's getting to me too, although it's ridiculous. I'm very close to my father. We worked together, and recently had to shut our business down. There's an emptiness that hurts. I've also noticed that recently, although it is out of character for me, I've been engaging in some self-destructive habits. I'm ashamed of it, and I want to stop. There's more, but this is my first post. Best to just introduce myself and do more listening than talking. Multiple Myeloma is an evil disease. Posted on 03/09/08, 07:03 pm |

Hi Ethan, I know how horrible this disease can be, but don't give up hope. Many of us, here are survivors. I was dx with MM in 8/03, and was told that I'd be dead in a year or so without treatment. It was pretty far along. I had a stem cell transplant in 3/04 and am still in remission. Please don't give up hope. It's not an automatic death sentence any more.

I must agree with cherri. I to have MM, and have had it for 14 yrs. I guess this makes me a survivor also. I don't know how far your father is along, but cherri is prove that live can go on. I my self chose not to take any treatment at that time, the treatment was as bad as the disease. I would now a day take the treatment, and may have to start soon myself.

Hi Ethan,WOW!! Can I ever relate to you! I just joined this site and already I am so glad!My husband was diagnosed with esophagal in Jan 09 was operated on March 11-turned out to be staomach cancer-didn't remove it all(?) just got to the cancer clinic-was just going to start treatment and *LAST WEEK* they diagnosed MM-he has lost 60+lbs and can't hardly keep any food down(as a result of the removal of 3/4's of his stomach and 5+ inches of his esophagus. For me too, life has just stopped, everything has changed. He had just retired and we had so many plans of things we wanted to do and go!
Now I feel there is nothing.....
