IV porta cath

Has anyone had or have a IV port . It is used to recive the chemo and to take blood samples ect. What I want to know is has anyone had any trouble with the R.N.s accessing the port site? When I'm in the chemo lab I've noticed some of the R.N.S hav'ing trouble accessing the port.... the reason they want to put a port in is so they will be abel to access it without trouble , and not burn the veins up, that is what I thought. I will be getting a port put in on aug 5, 2008 I have really tried and tried to avoid it but it looks like it's time God knows what is best for me...so if anyone can be so kind to pass along any information thank you so much in advance.... and God bless you.

" I had a central line put in and only had trouble with it once when they htought there was a small clot in one. I had a triple port. After that was cleared up I had no trouble. It was much easier going that way than having all the needles everytime I needed blood test etc. Don't worry..it will be fine "

" My Mom had one put in and we are still in the undecided about if it's worth getting They had trouble getting blood out- which I thought was weird if they were able to put the Chemo in. They then put in an anti-clotting & had no problem. But I have to say my Mom flipped out because why go thru all that & have any problems at all. Mom is very ol' skool.
How is yours working out? "
