Helping a 15 yr old who recently lost her mother

A very dear friend of mine passed away July 12, 2009 from cancer. Her daughter and mine are best friends. She had to live with her dad and step mom whom she didn't have a relationship until her mom found out the cancer spread 1 month before she passed.
I have been trying to help her by talking to her, texting to check on her, bringing her places she wants to go. I also bought her the book Motherless Daughters and she likes it. She had a rough day today because her step mom took her to a doctor appointment and she refused for them to do anything to her because it made her think of her mother. She told my daughter that she wanted her mom with her at the doctor appt and no one else. I tried to talk to her later after this, but she seemed withdrawn so I just told her to call me if she needed anything and left it at that.
I know nothing I say or do will make it better, but I just wonder if anyone has advice on what I should be doing.
Thank you
Melanie

" Hi, i lost my mom when i was 15. it was such a hard time in my life to have lost my mom. i wanted to let you know that just helping her is all you can do. if she refuses the help, dont give up. sometime, she will use your help. you should tell her about daily strength! it helped me a lot when my mom passed away. maybe it could help her out too.

" I lost my mother in 1998, when I was 9 years old. What helped me the most is getting a journal to write down my feelings. Another thing that helped me is people just being there, but not be overly pushy on it. I felt threatened sometimes as if other women were trying to take her place. But feeling that I could approach another adult with anything helped a lot. What you're doing is great! I'm sure she appreciates it.
It's very difficult age to lose your mother, cause moms are so important and being a young girl without a mother is very difficult. Like Klou said, don't give up, it's very hard, and I think you're an amazing person for being so wonderful to her.
