2 months with molusscum don't know what to think??

So I have been dealing with molluscum for the past two months now and just really tired of it all and want to be free of this virus. I did however have some questions.
I recently have seen a new doctor and for starters he seems a lot more optimistic about beating this virus than I am. He seems to think that we can get rid of this virus within the next two treatments of cryotherapy. (I have been coming in weekly for the past two weeks so he thinks i can get rid of it in like two weeks tops.) But when i look down there and see everything I think somewhat differently. Its almost like I don't believe what the Dr. is saying. Lastly, the information he tells me contradicts some information I have read on the internet. For example, I told him of all the things that I have been doing to boost my immune system such as : take flax seed, garlic pills,immune pills, not drinking alcohol, and eating fruits and veggies more. He said that me doing all of that won't hurt me but it doesn't necessarily help me either as the virus is not internal but it is in the top layer of skin. For some reason my body is having trouble recognizing the virus. Back when I had regular warts on my elbow a couple years ago it seemed to take a little longer than normal as my body wouldn't recognize that virus as well. The Dr. said it himself that I seem to be struggling with this a little longer then some of his other patients. One thing that makes me nervous but he doesn't seem very concerned about is when he treats me and is looking for mc bumps. He puts on gloves and searches around my genital area for MC bumps as it is hard to see due to the amount of pubic hair. He touches some bumps as this helps him distinguish if it is mc or not and then he touches other areas of pubic region to search for more. From what I read touching bumps and then touching other areas risks spreading it. But he said that this is more typically happens in his patients that shave. But i don't shave I am just referring simply to touching a bump and then touching another area. As of now I am just trying to focus on what he said when he said that he thinks he can get rid of it in a couple more treatments. I have to believe that the Dr. knows what he is doing but still for some reason why do I not fully believe everything he is saying? Posted on 04/09/12, 06:47 pm |

GooglyMoogly,
First, I'd like to say that I'm very sorry you're going through all of this! What your doctor is saying seems very contradicting as you mentioned! I can't say that my situation was at all the same, but my 3yr had MC and what a pain that was! I can only suggest you get a second opinion as I did! The first time we took her to the pediatrician, she was prescribed Aldara which I would NOT recommend at ALL especially the MC is on your genitals. This ointment was sooo rough on my daughter's skin I can't imagine how painful it would be for you... Anyhow, we got a second opinion and the dermatologist recommended using this product called dermallay. It's a liquid you use two times a day and all I can say is that it works wonders! She's been using it for 2 weeks now and the irritation from the Aldara ointment went away within days and even though the dr. said to use it for 4 weeks but you can barely even see it now!! I know it's not the same situation but I figured if it worked and was safe enough for her skin maybe it'll work for you! (the liquid may be easier to get through the pubic hair as well) As for the doctor touching different areas, I have to agree with you... I would think touching the MC and then another area would probably spread it (both the ped. and derm. warned us about how easily it can be spread on the body) Anyways, I hope this helps... I'm sorry I don't have much to offer other than that! Let us know how things work out for you!!! Oh, by the way I just checked to see if I could find it online and looks like you can buy it off their site... www.mydermallay.com - Casey

@Casey
I've been dealing with molluscum for a few months now because my doctor said it would go away but it's pretty embarrassing to have on me so I wanted it gone. I tried apple cider vinegar which didn't work for me, and then someone told me to use beetle juice which I'm kind of pissed no one told me how bad that stuff would hurt on areas "down there" Anyways, I tried that dermallay stuff you were mentioning about a week ago and just wanted to thank you for bringing it up in here! The bumps aren't all the way gone yet but 1) It doesn't hurt to put it on and 2) I can already see it starting to heal up! Thanks again! - Harvey
