I had a miscarriage in March and have been TTC ever since with no luck. I will see a specialist this week. Any ideas as to what I should expect him to do?

" They will probably get your medical history, and then prescribe a course of labwork and tests. They will look at your family history and risk factors.

They seem to do a few bloodtests at each visits, depending on your case. There is a long lists of bloodtests. ere is a link to one:

Eventually they may do ultrasounds, and test eggs and sperm quality.

Good luck. Hope you get some answers! "

" I had blood work and my partner's semen was tested first of all. Don't let him make any excuses, it's important! But be nice to him I think it's more unpleasant for them than we imagine.

I had a cervical exam but that could have been just because I was spotting mid-cycle.
I had a trans-vaginal ultrasound to look at my ovaries (I guess looking for cysts). Not uncomfortable.
Next I had a hysterosalpingogram to check my fallopian tubes were OK. A bit uncomfortable.
That detected possible polyps in the womb so I had a hysteroscopy to confirm and treat. Because that required a general anaesthetic I requested a laparoscopy at the same time (as I only wanted to have one general) in which they detected and treated endometriosis.

I read a really good book about it by Robert Winston (Getting Pregnant) and one of the things he said was not to stop the investigations because you think you've found the reason. If I had just had the polyps treated, we'd never have known about the endometriosis. Neither was making me infertile but both reduced my fertility. It took me a year to get pregnant the first time (before the treatment) and only 2 months afterwards.

Good luck. "
