Greetings to you all :)
I have noticed alot of people on here are Army, but is anyone Navy? I guess in most ways all the branches are the same, but that's what I am trying to find out. My husband, whom I love very very dearly, keeps telling me he will help me out with getting me some phone numbers for contacts of people that help the Navy wives and such (especially while our men are deployed), but we've been married for over 2 years now and he keeps saying that he forgets. To be honest, he is not set to deploy for another year, but I really am tired of waiting and worried that if I wait any longer the time will come and he will leave and I'll be left in a lurch. I also have a severe and chronic illness so he knows the importance of these things he is supposed to help me with. I've tried Fleet/Family Services and really, I got nowhere. I'm just wondering if anyone is familiar with how it works in the Navy. He will also be starting to go underway for a week or two at a time very shortly and the thought of being here without him even for that short time with no resources is a bit unsettling. Thank you, take care, and God bless. Posted on 09/09/09, 11:09 am |

Hi! Sorry to hear you feel disconnected...you absolutely must start with navyformoms.com and navydads.com where you will feel nurtured and maybe even over mothered! I hope so!
There are so many helpful people there and very informed administrators who care about us...family as well as parents. Good luck to you two!

My husband is being deployed in January and the support group which is called Family Readiness Program (in our area) contacted my husband and I about a month ago and we have our first briefings this weekend. I don't know about your area but I would think they would set you and your family up with a group. I hope you get the support you need. God Bless

In the 10 years of being a spouse of a Navy man I have learned that before a deployment you should be contacted by the family support group. If you have not received any information from the command I personally would try to either contact the ombudsman of the command or someone on base for the information. Hope this helps!

Thanks to everyone for your help :) It is sincerely appreciated. My husband did mention something about the ombudsman...he says he should be able to get a number for me or something like that.
I'm so glad to have had input from you all. God bless you and keep you safe and sound. I'm slowly learning that being a military wife is just about the hardest thing I'll ever do, but well worth it when I think of what my husband does each and everyday.

I am currently in the Navy, and the ombudsman will be your best source of info.

My son is a Navy Hospital Corpsman who just deployed to Afghanistan with the Marine's. I was at the last minute trying to find someone to help me. Dailyfood is right...I just joined Navyformoms.com and they have tons of info on there. I can't help you as my son is with the Marines so I go through Family Readiness but your husband will have an Ombudsman assigned as he gets ready to deploy. I found a site ombudsmanregistry.org that can help you when the time comes. Even better, you could volunteer if you have the time to be the ombudsman! The Navy's site has more info on that. You would keep up with the unit while they are away and notify the families of what's going on...in other words you could be one of the first people to know everything! If I were a wife this is what I'd do, hands down!
