Pregnancy and Migraines

My wife just found out that she is pregnant with our first child. She is a long time migraine sufferer.

Her doctor told her to only use Zomig in an emergency. Has anyone had any experience using Zomig while pregnant? She is very early in the pregnancy(like not suppose to start her period until tomorrow but passed two pregnancy test). We're just worried about possible birth defects. However, she is in a lot of pain. She already had one trip to the ER last week and is trying to avoid another. Any suggestions?

" I do not know about drugs like that with pregnancy, but I know where she is limited with what she can take; she could try an ice pack, I know that ice you would think would hurt worse but that has taken the edge off for me! You could also try biofreeze, you get it from chiropractic offices, it's like icy hot but actually has a pain reliever in it! Good luck! For the past 2 months I have only gotter relief for a couple hours a day, I wake up with them in the night too. Tell your wife that I am sorry. Emomma "

" Thanks for the reply. She has been using the ice packs. The migraine she has today has subsided a bit but the nausea is still pretty bad. The medicine she's taking for that, Metoclopramide, doesn't seem to be working. Ever since she went off her preventive medicines(in order to get pregnant) she has got migraines pretty regularly. "
