Artificial Sweeteners

My uncle has been telling me to get off of aspartame due to the many stories of people having side effects from it. For the past 2-3 months I have been switching to sucralose (Splenda). I have noticed that my headaches have been become more constant and more severe than they were before. I wasn't aware that sucralose could cause migraines or headaches. I started doing some research online and found out how this artificial sweetener is made. Along with this information I found stories of side effects people are having and one of them is headaches. I just took back my unopened products of this sweetener and I guess I'll see how things go the next couple of days. Has anyone else had this issue with sucralose?

" I knew before splenda came out that I couldn't use artificial sweetners because they would trigger a migraine. Then when it came out everyone thought this would be great because it was made from the sugar cane itself. It is WAY WORSE of a trigger for me than the others. I think I can smell it in someone elses diet coke w/ splenda & get a headache. Just kidding, but now you know you are not alone. "

" I knew all of the artifical sweetner could cause migraines. I have been one of those people who have been cursed with migraine since the age of 7. And even a piece of sugar free gum can trigger a migrain in me. And people are just now relizing the damage it can to to the internal organs. When I was a child all of the rave was saccrin(spelling.) I won't touch anything that has any of the artifical sweetners in it. I call it sweet poisioning!!!

Pepsi I have to agree with you. I actually stopped chewing gum or using mints because it is nearly impossible to find anything that isnt made with artificial sugars. I never thought about it but now that I read what you have said I realize that I do get migraines when I have chewed sugarfree gum in the past.

After researching the substitutes of the past I avoid them at all cost for the same reason you stated. For the short term they are saying it is all good for you but that is what they said about saccharine and those containing aspartame and now they have found evidence to the contrary. Best to stay natural when possible I say. "

" Well I am happy to say my daily headaches have gone away. I had a migraine Monday night and yesterday morning, but I believe that was caused by a cold front moving through the area. My anxiety and depression are much better. I am really happy to see all this improvement since last week when I cut Splenda out of my diet completely. "

" Oh that is awesome Erik!!!!!! I am so glad that you were able to locate such a volatile trigger for your migraines and have found so much success in so many areas by cutting it out. I hate the cold fronts and weather changes that get things going when trying to find out what is going on and fix it LOL.

I hope that the depression and anxiety stay to a minimum as well and you find yourself a happier and healthier person all the way around!!! "
