My grandaughter (28yrs) has had severe miagraines since a teen. She has the severe pain, aura, nausea, black spots, etc.
She was diagnosed with POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome) about 18 mos ago. A Neurologist put her on a few different drugs to no avail and she now has taken Imitrex for sometime. It isn't very effective. She had a baby 1 yr ago and while pregnant her BP started dipping so low that she would pass out. She was pretty much bed rest. The consensus was because she was pregnant. She is now passing out again and this week she stayed out on a floor for about 3 hrs. A neighbor hear the baby crying in her playpen and broke in and she was taken to the ER, Admitted and discharged 3 days later. No treatment other that pain and hydration. A MRI was done but no results Please if anyone of you can relate to these symptoms please post a reply and I will be so greatful. Thank you so very much it you can help. I too have passed out before-its no fun!! Happens to me when i over exercise, but i have a brain injury. My blood pressure is high though. Recent mri showed nothing. Neuro put me on depakote which takes 30 days to help, and zomig for onset of migraine. Insurance wont cover it though but had some free samples from doc.--made me sick anyway. Now they gave me sumatriptan for onset of migraine-haven't tried it yet though. Dont really like pills. Hope she feels better!!

Has she seen a cardiologist for the tachycardia? She should find a good electophysiology cardiologist that can treat the POTS. Hope this helps.

StveG, did the onset of the migraine start as a result of the injury or did you have them prior to that?
mmlinz, she is being told that it is not a problem with the heart, which I find incredible since they have diagnosed her with tachycardia. She is finding a doctor in Hawaii that even knows what POTS is.. Has your daughter been diagnosed with it? What is she doing for pain control and does she pass out? Lots of questions but I do so appreciate your responses. Thanks to both of you.
