Abortives are drugs that are used to stop the migraine process in its tracks. I use compazine when I start to notice the nausea or fuzziness in my eyes. Sometimes that will stop the migraine all together. If that fails, I use Migranal. It's like the DHE injection they give at the ER but in nasal spray form. My doctor recently gave me Imitrex STATdose to try, an injectable version of Imitrex, but I haven't had a chance to use it yet. It's supposed to work a heck of a lot quicker because sometimes it takes the Migranal up to 2 hours to really notice the effects. Yuck.
