Side effect frompropranolol?

Hi everyone. A few days back I asked some of you for your opinions of propranolol because I was considering it for myself. I hadn't heard anything negative about it so I filled out the prescription. In just a short time span I noticed that I had these strange lights my eyes that I hadn't had before. It is not an aura or floaters and I can't seem to understand why they would appear. Has anyone else had this occur while using propranolol? I checked out some web sites and I can't seem to find any conclusive reports to verify that is a possible side effect. Thanks!!!

I took Propronolol for about 2 yrs and it didn't help my migraines. You know everyone is different. I didn't have the side effect you are reporting either. But I would report it to my doctor and the FDA. It does not sound normal.

I took propranolol and did not have this experience. I agree with nsm, report this to your doctor immediately. The med did nothing at all for my migrianes, however my BP was never better :)

I don't know if this is from the propanol.
It sound similar, but not exactly like Aura, but you NEED to talk to your doctor. However, migraine sufferers are much more likely to have either benign "flashes" in their vision (not related to aura) due to thickening jelly in the eye, and "floaters" get "stuck" to your retina and cause this type of flashing. HOWEVER, also a detached retina is more common in migraine sufferers and has this nearly identical symptom I have had this, and called my Neuro immediately, he saw me and sent me to an ophthalmologist to rule out a detached retina. It was only the "floater" syndrome (in this syndrome you do not SEE the floaters, but they catch on your retina and pull it, causing what looks like lights.) The diagnosis is so precise that my neuro didn't feel comfortable diagnosing it himself, so I was sent to the Ophthalmologist (a medical doctor who specializes in the eyes.) I sometimes get this symptom, and if it persists I go back to the Ophthalmologistto rule out a detached retina (which can cause blindness) nearly every time. Please talk to your doctor immediately. This is NOT a diagnosis which can be made over the phone. A good doctor will require to see you. Good luck.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply with advice. I did stop taking the propranolol and I do not wish to go back on it. I have seen an Opthomologist and I do not have a detached retina (yay) but I do suffer frm the floaters on and off through the month. I still think that the propranolol had something to do with the lights, but I may never be sure so I will let this one rest.

Many of us have to go through a lot of different drugs before we find the ones which work for us. If, for any reason, a drug makes you sick or uncomfortable, it is best to talk to your doctor about an alternative.
I hope your vision is better. :) Glad the retina is fine. *whew*
