I've been on amitriptyline (25 mg) for 2 days. I slept 12 hours straight last night and have cat-napped off and on all day long. My brain is very foggy and I'm sluggish. Can anyone who has used this drug tell me if it gets any better? Can I cut the pills in half? It's helping the migraines, but I hate the side effects and can't live this way. Thanks.

You haven't been on it long. Typically after about three weeks (up to three months) you will know how yr body will react to a med, whether you will have an allergic reaction or whether or not your body will tolerate it and adjust well and acclamate well to it. Some of the people that have left messages reacted quite well after they adjusted. I didn't have that reaction. i took it about ten yrs ago. It made me sleepy all the time even though I started out at ten mg and titrated up slowly to 50. I had to stop. If after a few weeks you are still sleepy all the time I wld ck with yr dr to look at other meds. THere are several others out there for migraines to look at if this is a persistent problem that you do not adjust to. In the meantime start taking half a pill for a wk then titrate up the 25 mg and see if you still have such a problem with being tired. You may adjust better. 25mg may be too much for you to start with right away, but let yr dr know.
