I need some advice on shaving. I am so paranoid about getting a boil on my legs or under my arms that I have just about given up on shaving. The couple of times I shaved this summer I used disposable razors each time and prayed basically. But now I am even scared to do this. Does anyone use an alternative method of hair removal that works? I'm thinking of lasers but it is so expensive. Thanks for any advice!

I tried the disposable razor route on advice from my IDD but found that they caused more of a problem than they took away. So, I use my good razors (Venus) in a disposable fashion. It is certainly more expensive but it is the best way I've found (to use a new cartridge every time). I have to resist the urge to use them twice!
Also, because my armpits are a weak point for me, I just don't shave them as often. Modest clothing helps, too. Then it isn't even an issue. On nights that I look forward to attention from the husband, I shave. So, my advice is to shave less and to use a high quality razor (not disposable). Also, you can try putting a natural anti-microbial on after shaving (coll. silver, vit. C spray, tea tree oil spray or such). You would probably have to make something on your own. Carrie

This is a good topic to think about, since it is a worrisome issue.
Rock salt also is an antibacterial (although it can irritate the skin a little). In the summer I sometimes dampen a large piece and run it over my armpits before applying deodorant, as it cuts down on bacteria. I think an antibacterial soap as a shaving aid in the shower will help, and a follow-up such as Carrie recommended. Colloidal silver is my preference over tea tree oil (haven't tried oregano oil or vitamin C spray) since it doesn't sting. I think it would also be an effective disinfectant for a razor if you are willing to experiment. I am using a silver-based disinfectant/ cleaner (less expensive than colloidal silver from the health food store) for shower and bath tub cleaning, and I am spritzing it onto the cake of soap my husband uses (his only) and onto my razor while I am at it. So far so good.

I had 2 large boils in one of my armpits a few months back. I was told to not shave until the infection (in my armpit) was compleely healed. Afterwards, I used Veet. It is one of those razorless shaving gels. It does have an odor and I'm not sure how safe it is, but if you need to shave it may be an alteernative for you.
I have been vvery lucky and have not had any problems due to my razor...knock on wood lol.

Because I had mrsa on my armpit this summer.. i know how you feel and the poss of it spreading down there.. no thanks. i did the disposable thing. like when i HAD mrsa and beyond. now i use only tea tree soap, i use tea tree oil on trouble spots, i dont go overboard with it and i basically just take really reallllllly good care of those areas. i use a lot of shaving cream that is natural and i make sure the blade is sharp. ive found, for me, a decent razor cuts me less and ive had less probs with than the disposable ones but i truly think, screw what anyone thinks... there's times you just shouldnt shave. haha, ive talked to my husband about if i couldnt shave my arms again... for a HEALTH reason, for real, and hes like "of course i wouldnt care... and ummm, you can trim". I don't let it go to that point, but if I started having enough probs I TOTALLY would bring it there n if someone don't like it , okay =)
I use tea tree oil once or twice a week when my armpits feel sore. I use hibicleanse on the areas down there i shave... but i watch to keep it in a confided area (look at label), and I use... TEA TREE DEODERANT. I'm goin all out. :)
