" I have an internal infection of MRSA -- in the sinuses -- that kills! I can only imagine that the skin sores are much more painful because they are irritated by clothes and touch, etc.

Poor kid! My heart goes out to her (and you!) :) KD "

" Specialist wife; You do confuse me sometimes with your story. But I do want to remind you that you SHOULD NOT consider ANY alternative treatments , like what Carrie promotes, for your daughter without full discussion with her specialists. Her body is fighting a big fight, and there is probably no research on these treatments in children with your daughter's health problems.

" She is on phenobarb for seizures she has childhood epilepsy,,, the ursodio is to help water and toxins thru her liver,,, the Lactulose is a trial drug (for children with liver pro) it is a laxative to try to help clean out the toxins so she might be able to think clearer,, and amoxicillian she has taken since birth is to keep toxins from coming up her colon to her liver. At least that is what I am assuming. the rest of the med the septra is for MRSA and bactoban ointment is for her bum that is open. I am trying to make myself clear but really in somewhat of a shock to find out that the Dr knew she had this since 05 and didnt tell us. Now our grandchildren all have been exposed. The baby is 8 months old she is on septra now for a staph infection. This is way over my head but I am swimming. "

" Carrie, you comment that you don't understand my concerns, yet you insist on making statements that are not true. You may influence someone who is scared to try something that could be incredibly dangerous to her child.

MRSA does not only affect people who have immune problems. Where do you get your research and conclusions? MRSA is a non-discriminatory bacteria.

ANYTHING that is administered via the skin is now entering the body from the largest organ of the body: the skin. It doesn't just stay on the skin, it gets into the blood stream too: that's why babies are BORN with chemicals from plastics in their blood before they take their first breaths. You can't just decide that something on the skin is not like taking a medicine orally. You scare me because you are promoting a product, and along with that product, you are promoting other quackery.

Have you heard about the clay that the women in the Appalachian mountains ate when they were pregnant to prevent morning sickness? It was probably based on generations of advice. When they moved to another area of the mountain (or another mountain) and ate the clay, they died. Science and research helps us to avoid "acceptable loss" by researching the biology of what we are doing. As much as people hate the Pharmacy industry, it was established to provide more safety for us to get medications, rather than getting our meds by eating herbs/bark/grasses, etc...

" The boils were in her diaper area since about five months old. Now she has on on her back and spots on her legs. I did ask the dr about this and she said ABSOLUTLY NOT!!!! That the amocillin is probably other than the liver made her at a big winner for this other than a zillion blood draws but she said stick to the regumine! "

" Carrie, I wasn't comparing clay to garlic; well, maybe I was. The point I want to make is that some people will do anything they hear about, and may not know that just because it's "natural" that it could also be dangerous. Some people eat garlic, some people drink de-ionized water, some people use tea tree oil or silver on their sores. The bottom line for me is: give people all the options, but give them fair and balanced information. If this 6 year old's mother tried some of these "natural" treatments, she may very well harm her child. We may one day find that people with long-term complications from antibiotic resistant infections do have an immune component; or we may find that we are only the tip of the iceberg right now. Education about prevention of recurrent transmissions can also help families: for example, if you get recurrent infections, check your pets for colonization. I read of a mom whose bird was the carrier. Use probiotics, especially after a course of antibiotics. Don't share towels, washclothes, sheets, etc...; wash in hot water with bleach. Someone once posted to just buy white linens so you could bleach them. Learn to be a vehement advocate for those you love: don't let anyone provide medical care (or personal care) without cleaning their hands properly.first. Tell your doctors that you expect the same of them. DON'T take antibiotics unless absolutely necessary; always ask for a culture!! Keeping a log of sores/symptoms, and other variables (like diet/stress/monthly cycle for women/other meds might help with identifying areas to pay attention to. Learning to eat for health is good for all of us too. We are on the same page; we want people to do well and get better. I choose not to focus on the "med/herb/treatment" as much as how to support someone while they are searching for help and answers.

" I agree visiting nurse..You have to be extremely careful using things even if they are suppose to be all natural..

I found out that at Mayo Clinic when I was told not to take all the extra natural substances..

By this time I had developed many allergies and they explained that reacting to one of the all natural things would be really hard to treat because many are not FDA regualted..and since I have many allergies and no immune systme to speak of I was told to leave it alone..

So speacialistwife just be extremely careful about what you give you little one!

God Bless You All!!!! "
