Hi I have finally ended my regime of bactrim DS, rifampin...Does anyone know how long the Bactrim DS stays in the system..this has made me sick as hell for the last 14 days, joint pain, anxiety, insomnia, nausea..I took my last dose last night at 8..I still feel crappy today and the joint pain is killing me...Also if this drug regimen did not work, how sooon do the staph symptoms start showing again...How long do folks continue the muciprocin in the nose? Is it ok to continue this??sorry for the questions...Amy

" You may be advised to continue to use mupirocin (bactroban) inside both sides of your nose 2 times a day for a certain number of days a month. You cannot use it all of the time due to the fact that the MRSA has the ability to develop resistance to that bactroban. Check with your doctor. "

" Hi Amy--The joint pain may have nothing to do with the Bactrim. In my case, the MRSA activated my arthritis that I knew existed. Because I take care to keep my musculoskeletal system strong, the arthritis has been dormant for about 10 years. My bones and joints ached and burned terribly after the MRSA so my Immunologist asked me to see a Rheumatologist to make sure the MRSA didn't get into my bone marrow...it didn't...thank God! What it did do, however, is put the arthritis in an acute state to ware down my white blood cells. My medical team doesn't want me taking any unnecessary medicication that might ware down my immune system so I was prescribed Voltaren (topical NSAID) that works great.

Since I contracted the MRSA 10/2007, I have developed an excellent team of medical professionals that understand MRSA and do what is within their ability to keep me healthy--General Practitioner, Infectious Disease Specialists, Immunologist, Rheumatologist, Dermatologist, Gynecologist, and a Respiratory Therapist. You may consider requesting a similar team to help keep the MRSA from aggravating everything possible to ware your immune system down...that is how it wins.

I have been on the Bactrim now for twelve months solid with no side effects, and I have not had even so much as a cold. We have been using the time to strengthen my immune system and it has been working. I hope that sometime in 2010 I can stop using the Bactrim.

Try healing touch for spiritual strength, and I have a great nutrition plan that has really been working well if you are interested. Take care and may God strengthen you both physically and mentally to combat this superbug. "
