I have never used meth and I never will. I am watching my younger sister turn into a monster while abusing it. She is only 19 years old, with 2 small children. She started showing signs of abuse only 2 months ago and already I feel like I dont know her anymore. She has neglected her children and subjected them to an environment full of drugs and junkies. She will not even admit that she is using and refuses help. My family does not know what to do, and most importantly there is nothing we can do to take the kids out of that harmful environment. My family has already tried to involve the cops but they cant do anything unless she is found in posession of the drug or if the children have been hurt. The state of PA doesnt give many rights to grandparents either so the kids would go to their meth addict father or foster care. Theres no worse feeling than being powerless and watching someone you love destroy themselves physically, mentally and emotionally. What can be done to stop this? And does anyone have any suggestions on how to protect the kids?

I am so sorry to hear what your going thru. It is so much harder for the family to watch them self destruct then to be the addict. First, does she have any insurance? If she does look into trying an intervention. If possible please try to locate a NA meeting in your town. It is so important to get as much info as possible. Also online for KCI which really had lots of information and ideas. It really helps. It took me an entire year to keep on trying to help my daughter who is a meth addict. The first thing she told me was "I don't want to quit". She is now in jail. Thank God for that! I hate her being there but am grateful because she has a chance and is trying. Sometimes they have to fall and fall hard. Sometimes they trip several times before they really fall. It is not your fault. You can only do what you can do. God bless you.

MMD.... i hate to be the bearer of bad news, but as a recovering addict, I know that until your sister, has hit bottom; bottom being
different for all of us, and recognizes her disease, you are going to struggle daily with getting her the help she so desperately needs, might I suggest, like bremcac said find out as much as you can about help; i.e. (NA meetings, support groups in the community, treatment facilities), the disease, and the coping with, not curing (there is no cure), the disease of addiction, and when you have all your ducks in a row, and have everything that could possibly be asked about ready, look onemore time into the available help, and then unfortuantely, you must wait for her to come around, and she will, just a matter of time, and PRAY as we all will that she comes around before its too late. I know that the hardest thing for me when I finally bottomed out was the lack of help amongst family and friends that i had alienated, be her foundation, to reside on no matter the length of time it takes, because there will be a time in the near future, that she will so need a foundation to support her disease. God bless you and yours for caring enough to seek advice from others, Little, Joe W.

Call CPS on them. It is hard to do but it will help them face reality.
