major exposure, now what?

I realize this disease takes a long time to develop, but im still pretty worried about a possible major exposure i may have had recently and what the heck to do now? The house I've been so graciously allowed to live at is owned by a family member. Anyways, he had these guys tear down the popcorn acoustic ceiling and redo it last month, and they left the crap all over the floor, and I not knowing this stuff often is filled with asbestos , I volunteered to vacuum it up with this shop vac, that while using shot out a cloud of dust out the exhuast the entire time, so i was pretty much breathing in the toxic dust cloud without a mask or any protection. I sent a sample to a lab to get tested. It seems like there is really no way to tell how worried I should be or what to expect if it does contain asbestos.

" Hi Jeremy,

I washed my hubby's contaminated clothing for 25 years and I'm still OK. No one knows WHO will develop problems related to asbestos. Since it takes decades for the disease to develop, I'd advise you to live your life without hesitation. If Meso does develop, 20-30 years from now, you'll be able to know that you lived your life to the fullest. By then, I'm sure there will be a cure. "

" Hi Jeremy,

I am sorry for all the stress you're going through. What were the results of the asbestos test?

" Hello Jeremy. I had some major exposure to abestos in 1981 and am just now starting to show signs of damage. My son, who is named Jeremy also, was born in 1979 and he and my wife were also exposed every evening for 8 months when I came home and shook out my uniforms and work clothes. I am so damn mad at the company I worked at, the US government and everyone else that allowed so many to be exposed, ecven after they knew of the dangers. I will be praying for you. We should all keep in touch and be here for each other in support.
Steve "
