Montgomery County, and Philadelphia County WHAT: NAMIWalks for the Mind of America is a nationwide fundraising and mental health awareness program being held in more than 75 communities around the country in 2009, including right here in Greater Philadelphia. There is no walker registration fee. Participants are encouraged to raise as much money as possible from family members, friends, co-workers and business associates in support of their participation in the Walk. It's easy to register, build a team, and fundraise with paper brochures or on the NAMIWalks website at www.nami.org/namiwalks/PA/Philly. WHERE: Memorial Hall, 4300 Avenue of the Republic (formerly named N. Concourse Drive, at 43 rd & Parkside Avenue), West Philadelphia, PA 19131 WHEN: Saturday, May 30, 2009. Check in: 7:30 a.m.; Start time: 9:00 a.m. NAMIWalks for the Mind of America is a shine or rain event with activities for our “Walk-in-Place” Walkers. WHY: Funds collected by Walkers fund NAMI’s programs here in the Greater Philadelphia area: Bucks County, Delaware County, Main Line, Montgomery County, and Philadelphia County. These programs include support, education, advocacy and research involving schizophrenia, bipolar disorder (manic depression), major depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder and severe anxiety disorders. VOLUNTEER: Volunteers help us make our event a success! Can you volunteer before, during or after the Walk? Are you unable to do the Walk but still want to participate? Call us at (215) 886-0350, there’s something you can do! WALK TEAMS: Are you really motivated? Get others involved by recruiting a team! All you need is a Team Name, a Team Captain and to begin recruiting team members. We encourage families, organizations, agencies and companies to organize teams of Walkers made up of relatives, friends, organization members and employees to take part in the Walk. Make sure all of your teammates include your Team Name on their registration forms. Walkers who raise $100 or more receive official NAMIWalks for the Mind of America event T-shirts.
