Description: Dr. Elyn Saks, a Professor of Law and Psychiatry at the University of Southern California and UC, San Diego, has written a fascinating memoir describing her decades-long struggle with schizophrenia. Her story helps us to understand the subjective experience of mental illness and the long, difficult process of recovery, including the importance of having support and resources and the willingness to work hard and learn over time what contributes to recovery, as well as what did not work for her. We invite all of you to join us for our discussion of the life of Dr. Elyn Saks and the lessons we can learn from her story. To learn more about Dr. Saks, we highly recommend her fascinating memoir, The Center Cannot Hold, and/or a video of her talk (available at http://www.schizophrenia.com/sznew...).
